Madeline Slivka Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2025.
Madeline Emma (Rego) Slivka, 97, of Whitehall, PA, passed away June 19, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg, Bethlehem, PA.

Born to Salvatore and Anna (Metz) Rego on September 1, 1927, at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Madeline's family later moved to Nesquehoning, PA, where she met her husband, George. They married in 1943 and began their life together in Nesquehoning, then moved to Whitehall, PA, in 1962. Madeline spent her early adult years raising their five children. She also devoted much of her life to helping to raise the children in her extended family.

Madeline was known for her kindness, love, and undeniable strength to everyone who knew her. Her dedication and unwavering love for her family and loved ones was evident to anyone she met. Madeline's door was always open, never turning away those needing advice, a laugh, a good meal, a place to stay, or the comfort of her presence. At the heart of her convictions was the desire for her family and friends to experience "good health and happiness." A motto that she lived by and modeled for those around her.

In her later years, when not spending time with her family, Madeline loved to go out dancing nearly every weekend with her longtime partner, Bill Adams. In addition to her passion for music and dancing, she was a member of the Sweet Adelines, an all-female barbershop singing group, and The Red Hat Society, an organization encouraging women in their quest to get the most out of life. Madeline was also a dedicated member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fullerton.

Madeline will be forever missed by her surviving children Lynda Panuski of Whitehall, PA, Madalyn (Slivka) Eadline, wife of Doug Eadline, of Bethlehem, PA, and David Slivka of Whitehall, PA, and by her seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, George Slivka of Whitehall, PA, daughters Marianne Slivka and Mary Ellen (Slivka) Burns of Whitehall, PA, and granddaughter Tamara (Evans) Lauer of Northampton, PA.

Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd, Whitehall, PA 18052. Calling hours will be 10:00-11:00 a.m., and the Service will be 11:00 - 11:30 a.m., with immediate graveside burial following at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cemetery, North Catasauqua, PA.

If you would like to honor Madeline with a memorial contribution, her family suggests a donation to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia 3401 Civic Center Blvd. Philadelphia, PA 19104 online at www.chop.edu Thank you kindly.

Even though I never met "Grams" I felt I knew her from the countless conversations shared by her grandson Ryan. He always bragged about her spirit and never missed a chance to visit his favorite girl! Her spirit lives on in the work of her family at Healing Hands as they continue to care for the community like their matriarch. God speed to this remarkable woman!

Madeline was a wonderful friend, she had a beautiful heart, and a bright spirit. I remember Madeline dancing at the Ukrainian Club, singing with the Sweet Adelines, joining me at many Red Hat functions, serving coffee and delicious cake at her dining room table, always kind and comforting. I can't imagine the world without Madeline in it.

I had the privilege of meeting her many years ago, she truly was an incredible woman. You could see how much she loved her family and those she met by her smile and love for life.
I am genuinely sorry for your loss. I hope you take some comfort knowing it´s never a goodbye, it´s until you meet again because she will always be with you.

My condolences go out to all the family. I will always remember the summer parties at the lake and everyone singing. Your mom was a fantastic cook. Now the gang is all back together again. Your mom will be greatly missed.
