My heart aches for the family and friends of Madison. Today would have been my sister's 45 birthday. 26 years ago Linda committed suicide home on break during her freshman year in college. Her story was strikingly similar to Madison's. As I read the article today in People, chills went through my body and tears welled up as I relived those first few days. I am so sorry that Madison is now your angel. She will be in my thoughts and prayers forever.

I cannot stop thinking about your beautiful, accomplished daughter. From what I have read about Madison over the last few days, she was one of the great ones. I find your family to be incredibly brave and selfless in your efforts to try to help raise awareness to others in the midst of your own tragedy. I suspect we will be hearing more from the Holleran family who will unselfishly find some good to come from this devastating loss. I will continue to pray for your family and Madison. God bless you.

Mr Holleran, I am writing you this message as a dad who just pulled his student athlete son out of Columbia in December. My son Alec's story parallels your daughters in almost every way. From the type of high school they went to through to the athletic success. My son was a 3X State Wrestling Champion in Michigan and 1 time runnerup who went to an all boys catholic school Detroit Catholic Central he had many college options as your daughter did and chose Columbia. He started as a true frosh and it was a very difficult transition for him. I did not want him to go back this fall but its the child's decision and i never knew how bad things were or were about to get. I knew something was wrong late in the semester and wanted to make it to Christmas break which we did. After he went back *(day after Christmas due to athletic obligations) i felt uncomfortable about it. He then became very distant wouldn't answer phone or return texts for the next 2 weeks. Long story short his mind was in a very similar place to your daughters and we somehow convinced him to come home. We are rebuilding his life right now. My point is that there is no way you could have known the depths of the situation we love our kids so much and they have been so successful at everything that as a dad you just feel they will "push trough" like they have so many other times. But these schools are different and the strength the kids have gets sapped by the unforgiving environment. Our son was saved by the grace of god we (my wife and I) could have been sharing your story. If there is anything i can do please let me know. I would like this story to be shared with other families whose "super achiever" kids go to Ivy League Schools. God bless you and please work on forgiving yourself its what your daughter would want. Share your message and story to perhaps help others. I will gladly help you with that. God bless your entire family i will pray for you all and plan on talking about this story with my son. Mike Mooradian [email protected]

I had a friend who passed 2 years ago. Her story and Madison's story are alike. You may feel so alone but you are apart of something that many others have gone through. Please reach out to others, this will see you through your darkest moments. In the mean time take one day at a time and embrace all the love around you. You will be in my thoughts daily.
