Gum, Mae Lowry (Mrs. John N. Gum Sr.) A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she died at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Plaquemine Caring Center in Plaquemine. A longtime resident of Plaquemine, she was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Huntsville, Texas. Visiting was at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until religious service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Brad Williams, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Cleo Milano, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Entombment in Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John N. Jr. and Gwendolyn Case Gum and Billy Ray and Cynthia Rhorer Gum, all of Plaquemine, and James Elmer Sr. and Clara "Sissie" Morrison Gum, Baton Rouge; grandchildren and grandsons-in-law, Danielle G. and Thomas Glenn Prejean Jr. and Jennifer L. Gum, all of Plaquemine, John Darryn Gum, Los Angeles, Victor Devin Gum and fiancée Aimee Nicole McLaughlin, Jonie G. and Rick Foster and John Michael Gum, all of Baton Rouge, Jamie G. and Jeff Wise, Richmond Hill, Ga., James E. Gum Jr., Atlanta, Melissa G. and Jason Anderson, Shreveport, Beth P. and Jarod Guidry, Youngsville; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Leon and Bettie Cowin Lowry; husband, John Nathaniel Gum Sr.; five brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The family extends its appreciation to the staff of Plaquemine Caring Nursing Home and Odyssey Hospice for their care and especially, Vickie Guillot and John Glaze, for their care, support and love. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
