Mae Hughes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14, 2024.
Mae Chaffin Corvin Hughes, 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 11, 2024. She was born in Pulaski, VA to the late Marvin Luther "Bud" and Flora Ethel Kress Corvin. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 1 sister and 3 sons, Isaac Lee Bottoms, Michael Lue Bottoms and Mark Samuel Bottoms, along with countless family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, James Rennie Hughes of the home, remaining children, Wendy Morris (Bill) of Franklinville, Joy Ogburn (Randy) and John Bottoms, both of Winston Salem and a stepdaughter, Kathy Lacey (Kevin) of Murrells Inlet, SC. 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Chaffin, as she was known by many, was born in 1935, in the middle of the great depression. She had to leave school early to help support her family. Staying with and working for different families at a young age taught her the value of hard work and earning your own way. She held tight to her values throughout her life, passing many of these pearls of wisdom down to family members. She had great charm and wit along with a kind and gentle spirit. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need. She was a great mommy, and friend and will be missed by so many. The family would like to thank Forsyth Memorial Hospital ER and 5th floor ICU employees for their gentle, loving care to all of us. A special thank you to the 1960 classmates of Pulaski, VA for their contribution from the Sunshine fund. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at South Stokes Church of Christ located at 1223 Old Highway 52 S King, NC, where she was a faithful member. Minister Jeff Greene will officiate. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Stokes Church of Christ. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
