Malchi Adkins Sr.

ADKINS, Malchi Sr., a WWII veteran of Normandy, France Invasion on June 6, 1944 and retired pharmacy technician of the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Hospital, age 87, of Charles City County, Va., departed this life Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Born September 17, 1920, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iona W. Adkins; parents, Ananias and Charlesanna Adkins; and 15 siblings. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children, Barry Sr. (Barbara) of Henrico, Malchi Jr. of Augusta, Ga., Byron Sr. (Bernice) of Charles City, Mona of Chesterfield; eight grandchildren, Barry Jr., Breshae, Phillip and Byron Adkins Jr., Kaci Easley, Carl Daniels, Chanthony Whiting and Tashekia Nixon; three great-grandchildren, TaVonya, Chandler and Ashawnti; brother, Leroy Adkins of Richmond; and sister, Florence Taylor of Hanover; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Charity, Vivian Walker (Henry), Carolyn Whitehead and Connie Crawley (Saunders); brother-in-law, Langston H. Whitehead (Irene); many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Anna Pitt and the devoted caregivers of the Covenant Columns Manor Assisted Living Home. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. On Sunday at noon, Mr. Adkins will rest at Samaria Baptist Church (St. John), where services will be held 2 p.m. Eulogy, Rev. Ellsworth Tait. Interment St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Baptist Church Building Fund.
