saw Malcolm way back in the early 70s' playing at a bar in Wilmington, N.C. Cotton Exchange...another talented hillbilly poet/picker named Neil Morris told me about Malcolm... he was doing mostly covers and a few of his own, he had the real deal, goods no doubt...later on i bought 100 lies(probably 10 copies i bought and gave to my picker friends, and me a poor picking poet myself!) i've said many times Malcolm was a GODSEND beyond brilliant... i guess he's pretty much what we all call BEAUTIFUL!!! like i say i saw him maybe 3 times but he blew me away...never talked to him but hope upon hopin' i'll meet in him in the great KINGDOM BEYOND...he gave us so many truths in those masterpieces!!!May GOD BLESS Malcolm like he blessed us!!!

I met Malcombe at Oh Suzannah's in Brevard, NC. He had come to play, filling in for my husband who had strep throat. I went to thank him. I had the privilege of seeing him perform 3 more times after that first meeting. RIP Malcombe

I only found out today that Malcolm passed in March. I can't remember when I first heard his music - about 15 years ago? From the first song, you knew this person was gifted and utterly unique. His songwriting seemed to use a different language! He told stories that were filled with hope, hurt and community that struck a chord, at least with me. His songs are wonderful, convoluted gifts. I never got to see him live on stage, but I eagerly waited for every new record and video. Condolences to his family and friends. Thanks for your incredible music Malcolm.

Great song writer. Saw him for the first time in Norwalk Ohio at a place called the dirt sandwich. He was great. Saw him again near Dayton Ohio where he sat at my table and talked for about 15 minutes with me and my friend. Also gave us a CD called Liberty Circus. Great man.

Me watched Malcom’s musical talent, always sitting in the front row in venues in Asheville and many times in Boone and Newland. His poetry in song was such a blessing to us and his sometimes brash manner in song was an attention getter. As he played he would tip his chair and I was sure he would Land on his back side but he never did! Amazing balance and amazing music we will listen to his voice and guitar from here out. Miss you Malcolm! ♥

First met Malcolm at the pumpkin patch in Asheville, saw him at the brass monkey a bunch of times and then all over. He was extremely talented and a real human, really decent guy. one of a kind and this world is a bit less without him. Godspeed brother

I've known Malcolm since the mid seventies when he came into local Asheville pubs and played songs by Jim Croce, James Taylor and others. Over the years we developed a deep and lasting friendship. He later came in to his own writing and singing his own music. I remember when he first wrote " Chasing a Rainbow", one of his earlier songs in the seventies.
Malcolm always felt like a brother to me even though we didn't get to talk all that often later in his life. But when we did talk, it was as though we hadn't missed a lick. We had quite a history together early on and went through some bad times and good times together. He came through and made a beautiful life for himself and others.
I will miss his earthly presence but his spirit will always be with me and all those he touched with his kind and gentle ways.
I love you, Brother!

My condolences to Cyndi and the family. I knew Malcom back in the 70's, he was such a a sweet guy. Malcolm would come over and play his guitar and sing Jim crochet or James Taylor songs on our front porch. He was so talented, I knew he was a star even back then at 19 years old. I saw him again in 2006 when I lived in Louisville, he was playing at a local bar and my husband and I went by to hear him and say hello, he was as sweet as ever. I'm posting a few photos of Malcolm at 19 years old as a memory for everyone that loved him. Rest in Peace sweet man, I know you are singing with the angels.
