MALLORY, Malcolm (Mike)
Mike Mallory took his last breath on July 8, 2012. At age 90, with family at his side, he quietly succumbed to age-related complications at the Dorothy Macham Home at Sunnybrook.
He is survived by his greatest love and wife of 69 years, Bernice (née Booth), his brothers Red and Kayo, his three children Michael (Norah), Ginny (Blair Tullis) and Stephen (Jill), grandchildren Mara (Pat Parent), Cam (Lise Quesnel), Bridget (Mark Tutschka), Alison, Michael, Annie, Michelle, Suzie and Graham, and his great-grandchildren Patrick, Mary and Genevieve Parent, and Chloe, Morgan and Caleigh Tutschka.
Mike was proud of his service as a Lieutenant in the Army during WWII. Following the war, and his marriage to Bernice, he began a successful career in business in Canada and Europe. He spent his early years with Hugh Russel & Sons Steel, Dunlop Rubber, and American Optical of Canada. He returned to his hometown of Cobourg as president of Winchester Arms Canada, before being named president of the Paris-based Winchester Europe. His fondest assignment was as president of Rubbermaid Canada. After many years in that role, he moved on to Supreme Aluminum, Exide Battery Company and finally as board chair of Gilbey's Canada.
An avid outdoorsman, he spent some of his favourite days fishing and hunting at Goodwood and perfecting his golf game at the Lambton Golf & Country Club. Retirement allowed him to pursue interests in calligraphy and gardening. Although his later years were dimmed by the tragedy of Alzheimer's, his warm humour and strong family values leave a lasting memory of a caring husband, a great dad and granddad, and a favourite uncle to his many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dorothy Macham Home for the wonderful care and affection he received as a resident.
At his request, in lieu of a funeral, there will be a memorial service to be held on July 22 at 2:00 pm, at the Lambton Golf and Country Club (Toronto).
