Malinda Adams Obituary

Published by The Reidsville Review, Eden Daily News, or Madison Messenger from Dec. 14 to Dec. 16, 2007.
Mrs. Malinda Griggs Adams was born July 15, 1910 to the late Sidney and Hattie Griggs. She was one of nine children and the last surviving. She bore her illness well and peacefully departed this life Wednesday morning, Dec. 12, 2007 around 1 a.m.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Bold Springs Baptist Church. Another major accomplishment for her was graduating from Douglass High School in Leaksville, N.C. She had to leave home and live with relatives in order to do this.
She was the wife of Deacon Hubert Adams and together, living for Christ, helping others and working in the church was their lifestyle. She sang in the Senior Choir. Her passion was working with the children. She was a Sunday School teacher, touching the lives of so many children and youth in the church and community. She directed the youth choir, the Ever Ready Club for many years. Her favorite saying was "Sing Children.'' She instilled within you the desire to sing, work and do your best. In Sunday School she would say, "put that money in the plate'', "go ahead, put that other nickel in.''
She was a dedicated Missionary and a member of Cedar Grove Women's Auxiliary and for many years she traveled as a Missionary from church to church, for the Upper Union, soliciting funds for the sick and less fortunes. She was a retired Avon Sales Representative for Avon, Inc., and a very proud member of the President's Club. Even while she was confined to her bed at Brian Center, when asked about Avon's products, she would say, "It's in my car.'' She loved to work.
The loving family she leaves to mourn her loss consists of: three sons, Herbert Franklin (Maude) of Durham, N.C., Howard Gene (Evelyn) of Queens, N.Y., Saunder Lee (Frances) of Eden, N.C.; one daughter, Audra A. Byrd (James) of Eden; one adopted daughter, Marsha Griggs Creole of Brooklyn, N.Y. She also leaves to mourn her loss, 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews and their spouses, also a host of other family members. She will be sorely missed. She kept them on their toes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Bold Spring Baptist Church, Ruffin, N.C. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Primitive Church Cemetery.
Arrangements entrusted to: Perry Spencer Funeral Home, 511 Henry St., Eden, N.C.
