Manuel Cruz Obituary
Manuel Diaz Gumataotao Cruz, 76, a 15-year resident of Fairfield, died Aug. 26, 2007, at his home after a brief illness.
Manuel was born on April 4, 1931, in Sumay, Guam. He served his country proudly in the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force and retired as a Staff Sergeant after his service.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Babauta Cruz (Mamaling) of Fairfield; daughters, Maria Cruz of Edgewood, N.M. and Jean Cruz of San Gabriel; sons, Ricky Cruz of Rio Rancho, N.M.; grandchildren, Tesla Cruz, and Sabrina Velasquez and her husband, Robert; great-grandchildren, Justice and Jadan Velasquez; step-children, Gene Toves, Frankie Gracia and his wife, Maria; Antonette Eckert and her husband, Dave; Elaine James and her husband, Armour; John Scharff; Randy Scharff and his wife, Kris; Judy Guerrero and her husband, Joe; George Scharff and his wife, Maricel; Mark Scharff and his wife, Valerie; grand nephew, Joshua Sablan of Sacramento; and nine step-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at the same location. Fr. David Fontaine will officiate. Burial is at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery with full military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home, 425-1041.
