MANUEL STOUPIS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2012.
STOUPIS MANUEL
Age 81, of Port Vue, died February 7, 2012, at UPMC McKeesport. Born December 1, 1930, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Athenasious Stoupis and the late Helen (Spivak) Bill. Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Nelson) Stoupis. After 38 years of employment with U.S. Steel, National Tube Works, Manuel retired from the rolling mill department. He took great interest in the lives of his fellow U.S. Steel coworkers, serving as past vice president of #1408 Steelworkers Union, past chairman of the Grievance Committee, and was a member of the Health and Safety Committees. Manuel held a Master's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, completed his undergraduate work there in 1958, and was a McKeesport High School Class of 1948 graduate. He was proud to be a 50 year member of the Mathematical Association of America, an avid Pitt Panthers and Big East Basketball Conference fan. Just as he was concerned for his coworkers, Manuel very much appreciated and cared about his neighbors. He grew a vegetable and flower garden every year, and enjoyed giving away vegetables, especially his prized tomatoes, and making fruit baskets for his friends. From restoring his teenage daughter's first car to entirely remodeling her dental practice building, Manuel demonstrated throughout his lifetime that he loved his family most of all. In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter, Dr. Sherrie Marie Stoupis of Bentleyville; sister, Marion Benvin of Pasadena, TX; nieces, Michele Benvin, Christy Haney, Tracie Poti and Lori Whatley, all of Texas; great-nieces and great-nephews. True to Manuel's wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Dinner in his honor will be announced at a future date. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mark Parish Food Bank, 1101 Romine Ave., Port Vue, PA 15133 or, out of Manuel's love for animals, White Oak Animal Safe Haven, 2295 Lincoln Way White Oak, PA 15131. Arrangements provided by WILLIG FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES.
