Marbry Stansell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 12, 2025.
Marbry Ann (Dunaway) Stansell, 83, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, February 6, 2025. She was born on Friday, April 25, 1941, in Sandwich, Illinois to Carl and Evelyn (Shales) Dunaway.

Marbry was devoted to her family from an early age, leaving high school to help raise her three younger siblings prior to attending Moody Bible Institute. While studying at Moody, she met her husband, David Stansell, and together they served in South America, where they were dedicated to Bible translation and spreading God's Word to those in need. In the mid-70s, Marbry returned to the US to raise her growing family. She was a homemaker, secretary, cook, and caregiver. She never met a stranger and had close friends from all walks of life.

Marbry's legacy lives on in her sister Carlene Yancy of Harvard, Illinois; her beloved children: James (Kim) Stansell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Michael (Michelle) Stansell and Sarah Stansell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Heidi (Eric) Anderson of Denver, Colorado, Grace (Mike) Hanneman of Anchorage, Alaska, Phillip (Maddie) Stansell of Lone Tree, Colorado, and Elizabeth (Richard) Church of Damascus, Maryland; as well as her 14 cherished grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Marbry was preceded in death by her father, Carl Dunaway, her mother, Evelyn Adkins, and her siblings Larry Dunaway and Joyce Cushman.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, Illinois on Friday July 11, 2025, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marbry's memory to SIL (sil.org), supporting the continued mission of bringing God's Word to every nation and tongue.
