Marc Kieffer Obituary

In Loving Memory of Marc Russell Kieffer

Marc Russell Kieffer, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 2, 2024, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. He was born on August 26, 1966, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his life was characterized by unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Marc's journey was marked by dedication and passion. He graduated from Stone Mountain High School and pursued higher education at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, where he earned a degree in hotel restaurant management. His early career saw him alongside his father in the printing press equipment industry, but his heart always gravitated towards his true calling-owning and operating restaurants. A man of exceptional warmth and generosity, Marc touched countless lives through his culinary talents and his unwavering commitment to hospitality. His restaurants were more than just dining spots; they were hubs of community, where friends became family.

Marc was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Margaret "Peg" Kieffer, and his infant sister, Heather Leigh Kieffer. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by his wife of 22 years, LeAnne Kieffer, and their children, Rhys and Elloree, all of Charlotte, NC.

His memory will be forever cherished by his brothers, David (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA, and Jimmy (Kristieanna) of NYC, NY, as well as his beloved in-laws, Mickey and Rita Deason of Kingsport, TN. He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Madeline, Peyton, Wes, Rowan, Noel, and Dex, who held a special place in his heart.

Marc's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. One of his favorite quotes by Dolly Parton, "It's hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world," captures his brilliance and authenticity, which stood out even in the most ordinary moments of life.

A celebration of Marc's life will be held on Friday, April 26, 3pm at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, 8801 Park Rd, immediately following a reception will be held at the Kieffer home, 7734 Covey Chase Dr. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations so that Rhys and Elloree can continue to live out their dreams, one of Marc's greatest wishes.

Marc's memory will live on forever in our hearts, a beacon of love and warmth in our lives. May he rest in peace.

Shortly after moving to Charlotte in 2019, I walked up to Toucan Louie's to eat and Marc took my order. I explained to him that I was new to town and it was my first time there and he offered me a sample of his freekeh salad (and it was amazing!). We were friends from that day forward. Soon, I started taking my 9 month old godson there for our regular Thursday night date night and he and Marc became Buds. So much so that Marc let us bring in a lock and some special toys to store in one of the lockers. D got a kick out of walking in the door and going to his locker to retrieve his stuff. Over the years, our Thursday night ritual grew to add my new boyfriend (now husband), my godson's brother, and our neighbors and their little girl. The kids loved to ride in their "train" on the way there and always wanted a turn at the pinball machine. The adults loved catching up with Marc and our favorite staff, the yummy dinner specials, the new addition of beer on tap and the occasional night of trivia. It was a sad day when TL's stopped serving dinner but we made every attempt to go at breakfast and lunch. Marc, you will always be a part of my new start in Charlotte. We cherish our memories of our dinners at Toucan Louie's. Leann, Rhys, and Elloree, what a treasure your husband/dad was. Our prayers are with you.

Mark was a pleasure to work for. He was a good man. A good father, a good husband. Everybody loved coming into toucan Louie's chatting with Mark. Most of all I miss Mark's jokes. Rest in peace, Mark we'll never forget you. Lora Moultrie

Sending hugs and my deepest condolences to Leann, Rhys and Elloree. I´ll always remember Marc saying jokes and laughing during Elloree´s horse-riding birthday party. Such a wonderful dad. Everyone who knew him will miss him.

Dear Le Anne - Marc was a cherished friend and devoted dad who brightened the lives of all who knew him. Your kind-hearted, gentle giant made lasting impressions on all lucky enough to cross his path. I can´t believe he´s gone, and I am heartbroken for you and the kids.
