Marcello Greco

Marcello Greco passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on June 30th. Born in the region of Calabria, Italy to Elias and Grace Greco, his family immigrated to Chicago, IL, in 1960. He attended Austin High School and, after graduation, began working at the First National Bank in Chicago.

In 1978, Marcello and his then-wife and children moved to Arizona, where he opened Marcello's Deli. This venture led him to work in food-service distribution with several companies, eventually inspiring him to start his own Italian food distribution company, Greco Imports. After nearly a decade, he sold Greco Imports and launched Classico Italiano, selling specialty items at local markets.

Marcello had an unwavering passion for helping others, expressed through his culinary talents and warm-hearted personality. For years, he dedicated his time to various community organizations. He was a devoted volunteer with the Tempe Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. At Holy Spirit Church, he took on the role of Bingo coordinator, where his natural charm effortlessly forged lasting connections with fellow parishioners and visitors alike.

Marcello's legacy - a blend of love, resilience, and cherished friendships - lives on. He will be lovingly remembered by family, friends, and generations to come. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Heather.

A mass will be held on Friday, August 9th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tempe, AZ, at 11 am. Family and friends are invited to a gathering in the Social Hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus and sent to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 E. Libra Dr., Tempe, AZ 85283. Alternatively, donations can be made to Coolidge High School FBLA for a scholarship to be presented in May 2025 to a qualified senior student with a business plan or a desire to pursue a business degree.
