How difficult it is to face the loss of a sister. A sister is always there as a friend, as a confidant, as someone who listens to your complaints when you are under duress or just when you are dissatisfied with life or yourself in general, and as someone who has your back and is there to give you unconditional love and support when you may need it the most. Although throughout most of our adult lives, Marcia and I lived geographically far apart, we kept in touch. Living in Pennsylvania, I often had to travel far in order to visit with her.....to California, to Mississippi, and even to Newfoundland. Despite the distance, we kept in touch via phone conversations and we were there to support each other through lives bumps and bruises and hard knocks as well as the good times. Once Marcia sent me a mother's day card. I have no children, but she felt that I, who faithfully sent mother's day cards to relatives and friends, was being left out. How very thoughtful and caring!

Although we have always stayed in touch, I think we became closer as we more recently suffered through some more traumatic and heartfelt losses, one of those being the demise of our younger sister, Linda. Since our younger sister's death, we made it a point of trying to call more often, and we definitely made a point of saying "I love you" each time we talked. Our sisterly talks will have to be those made over a much longer distance from now on. So, Marcia, keep the love lines open!!

I would like to finalize by good-by by quoting the verse on a Hallmark birthday card that I purchased "For My Sister", but it's a card my sister will never receive, and I quote : "THERE IS A GARDEN IN MY HEART WHERE HAPPY MEMORIES GROW OF THOSE WHO MEAN THE MOST TO ME AS SEASONS COME AND GO.....AND AMONG THE FAIREST FLOWERS THAT THERE COULD EVER BE IS THE MEMORY OF MY SISTER AND HOW MUCH SHE MEANT TO ME." (Hallmark.com)

I love you and I'll miss you, big Sis! Peaceful journeys. Distant hugs and kisses until we meet again! Love, Barb
