It was by the grace of GOD that we were fortunate enough to move to the same street as the Zarate's, first we were neighbors, then we became Friends that turned into to Family, Our families grew to know each other and we loved the relationship that we shared. From weekend BBQ's, days at the pool, evenings of talk and cheers. Every major event that impacted our lives, from Birthday's, Holiday's, Graduations and Anniversary's, he was there; he was a part of our lives, and our memories. Our boys loved Marco and truly looked up to him as their Hero. Marco's sincere smile, unique sense of humor, and genuine love for others, attracted our family to him immediately and continued to do so over the years. He always let our sons sit on his motorcycle or in his squad card and enjoyed when Marco would put on the lights and siren. :) He was a proud Patriot and Marine Veteran for our great country. Selfless, Loving, Big-Hearted, Dedicated, Honorable, Great Father, Wonderful Friend, and Brother...are words that only begin to describe Marco. I cannot begin to describe what the loss of Marco means to me and my family, but also to the community and his friends. I can only hope that through the mourning, we can all take time to celebrate the joy and happiness that Marco brought to us all.

My son worked for a short time at Bellaire PD, Officer Zarate trained him for a portion of his training period. He now works for another department and credits Officer Zarate for the knowledge and experience he shared with him. Never treated the young rookie with anything except respect. Fine upstanding man and officer may he rest in peace. May God's comfort surround his wife and children.

Thank you for being my angel* On Jan 21 2016, I was 6months pregnant and bleeding. I left my job to speed to the southwest Hermann Memorial Hospital. I was pulled over by Officer Zarate for speeding and once he realized my situation, he demanded I calm down and wait for an ambulance. Within a few minutes, I was rushed to the labor and delivery. "All is well", officer Zarate. He drove my Jeep to the HCC lot and parked my vehicle there and not once cited me or towed my vehicle. Once I was released from the hospital, my mother handed me a card she had received from the Bellaire Police Department while retrieving my keys. I NEVER got to THANK OFFICER ZARATE. I kept telling myself to wait until my baby turned 2 months (after my baby received his first shots) to bring Officer Zarate a cake, card, and my 2 months old babyboy for a picture. Unfortunately, I was a little too late. My son's doctor's appointment was on July 12 at 1030 am. My heart is shattered by this devastating event. May GOD place peace within your soul and your loved ones souls. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING MY ANGEL OFFICER ZARATE!!!!! SALUTE TO YOU SIR!

Marco, I am trying to convince myself that you are actually gone! It is hard for us (all who had the privilege to know you) to believe and our hearts are so heavy! You were such a wonderful person, so we have lots of wonderful memories to help comfort us...though those same memories also cause us to miss you even more! On behalf of your Bellaire FSR Team and HL&P (Centerpoint) Family we love you and will always remember you! Rest in peace my friend! May God comfort your wife, children, family, and friends in the coming days and years. The Word says to be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord, so enjoy His presence Marco!

On behalf of the Reyes Family, we extend our deepest sympathy to the entire Zarate Family. Marco and I worked together back in the mid 1990's at the Houston Lighting & Power Company (Centerpoint Energy). We both worked the evening shift at neighboring service centers. We would always check up with each other, lending a hand if needed. We became good friends during that time and then lost touch with him around 2004. I will always remember him as a physically fit, easy going guy, who would help anyone in need. Rest In Peace My Friend. I will always cherish the good times we spent working at HL&P.

I knew Tony when he went to Black and Waltrip and also when he was a member of St. Patrick's CYO. We would see each other either from time to time at St. Patrick's where we would say a quick hello and ask how each other were doing. He had that infectious smile that others have mentioned showing the true happiness in his life. He was definitely one of the good guy. His involvement in Special Olympics is a true testament of his strong character and belief in helping others. My nephew Alec is a recipient of his hard work to this great organization. God has another true angel in heaven. My condolences to his family during this time. May God's light shine upon you and give you peace.

Our condolences to Zarate family, friends and co-workers of Bellaire PD on the passing of our cousin Antonio. We know that it is hard to bear right now, but remember that death is only the end of the physical life and the beginning of an eternal life. I knew him growing up as a child and he grew up to be a good, kind and friendly man. He has touched the lives of so many people and even though he is gone, his memory will live on in all of our hearts forever. His spirit has not left us. All of the many, many people that whose lives have been touched by him should take comfort in knowing that right now, he standing at the gates of heaven. He will be missed in this earthly world. But I know he is at peace with our Heavenly Father. We will see him again in God's time. Praying the Lord will comfort you with His peace, surround you in His love and encourage you with His presence. Wishing you peace that comes with time and the comfort of memories.

Marco Tony Zarate -- Tony, as known by his friends, will be greatly missed. We feel it was privilege and a blessing knowing him. In the last few days after his passing as his family, friends, fellow policemen, and community gather to support his wife Cecilia Zarate - Ceci - and daughters and to celebrate his life we realize the important legacy that he leaves with us. Tony knew the priorities of life. He showed us that what really matters in life is how much you love, how much you give, and how much you enjoy life.
Tony was the most honest person we know. He said what he meant and meant what he said, and was always helping others. H lived by loving without condition and caring for people without expectation.
Tony's spirit, his love, his friendship, and his humanity will stay with us all forever.
Sincerely,

We became friends with Marco and the Zarate family through his daughters Mayah and Miah, who became great friends at school with our daughter Carly. Both of our family's grew to know each other from our daughters and we loved the relationship that developed. All of our children loved Marco and the Zarate family. Marco's infectious smile, humor, and genuine love for others, attracted our family to him immediately and continued to do so over the years. He always let our son Chase sit on his motorcycle or in his squad card and enjoyed when Marco would put on the lights and siren. :-) I enjoyed attending Veteran's Day celebrations at the elementary school with Marco, he was a proud Patriot and Marine Veteran for our great country. Tony and I were like brothers at one time in our lives, but lost touch over the years. Something I will regret for a long time. He was my best man when I was married, we went into the Marine Corp together, we laughed and even cried together, we were inseparable. My mom thought of him as a son and I'm sure his mom felt the same about me. Everyone knew we were best friends and if you messed with him you would have to mess with me and vice versa. Tony and I shared many laughs and did some pretty crazy things along with our other buddies who are I'm sure smiling as they read this. If the Bellaire PD knew what we did back in the day he would have never been hired. Lol. We also went through tough times in our personal lives as well, but we were always there to pick each other up no matter what. I never told Tony this, but he made me a better person. He made me push myself when I didn't want to go on, especially during boot camp. Lol. He would ask me to write his letters to his gal back home for him. He told me I was better at it than him. I would tell him "yes I am". I promise when I see my buddy again I will never let him out of my sight. You are safe now my brother. I've heard in heaven an hour equals a decade's time here on earth. So I am pretty darn sure I will see you again before the day is up in Heaven. We will be 18 years old again.

July 15, 2016

Tony as we knew him, was my brother's best friend. I also had the honor of working with him it was a joy, always with a smile on his face. My Condolences go to The Zarate Family. May God give them peace to their broken hearts.
