Marcus Jordan Epperson was born in Tyler, Texas, on May 18, 1926. He died on November 1, 2016, at the age of 90. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1942. After serving two years in the United States Army 770th Railroad Battalion, he attended Tyler Junior College. He then transferred to Rice Institute where he graduated in 1951 with a major in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduation, he went to work for Cameron Iron Works. He joined Tidewater Oil Company in 1954, which later became Getty Oil Company, and was then bought by Texaco Oil Company. He retired from Texaco in 1990 as Senior Research Consultant / Drilling and Production Technology. He was very active for over 30 years in the API (American Petroleum Institute) serving as chairman of the Pipe Committee and as a member of the ISO (International Standards Organization).
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his twin brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ann Britain Epperson, and their three sons, David Marcus Epperson of Tyler, Brian Douglas Epperson and wife Mary of Plano, and Gary Stuart Epperson and wife Susan of Houston, as well as four grandchildren, Andrew Jordan Epperson and Emily Grace Epperson of Houston, and Hannah Claire Epperson and Kaylee Nicole Epperson of Plano, in addition to three nieces, a nephew, and many cousins in the Tyler area.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 14, in the downtown sanctuary of the First Methodist Church Houston, 1320 Main at Clay, where Marcus and Ann have been members for 30 years.
