Marcus Hayes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 18 to Jul. 19, 2016.
Marcus W. Hayes, Jr. was born on December 24, 1994 in Columbus, Ohio. He is the son of Jamette Latisha Baskfield and Marcus William Hayes, Sr. He departed suddenly on July 14, 2016.

Affectionately known as “Buddha,” “Man-Man,” “Marki-Mark,” and “Son-Son.” He graduated from Providence High School in Charlotte, NC in 2013. He was employed with W & T Travel Services, LLC of Camp Springs, MD as a Mechanics’ Assistant. At the early age of 2, Marcus could be found disassembling and reassembling things all around the house just so he could see how they worked. He spent many hours working on cars with his grandfather and great uncles. At an elementary age, he enjoyed sports such as football and baseball which he excelled at in his high school years. As much as he loved those sports, he was a gifted wrestler and became a Wrestling State Champion at Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade, Maryland. His love for mechanics turned into a career when he became employed with Designline Corporation as a Production Assemblyman in Charlotte, NC.

Marcus was an active member of The Greater Divine Cathedral Church of Baltimore, MD. He could be found on countless Sundays teaching the youth about God’s word as well as feeding the homeless, community outreach, assisting and serving for conferences and holiday functions. At a young age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In 2013 he was consecrated by his pastor as a Junior Steward in the ministry. In that capacity he went through continued leadership training, discipleship development, evangelism and pastoral care and support. Marcus created bonds with the youth from the youngest to the oldest. His spirit to serve caused those bonds to stretch to the adults within his church family and beyond. The mothers of the church loved their Marcus.

Marcus’ favorite hobby was riding his 2007 Harley Davidson Street Bob. He spent countless hours accessorizing and tuning it to perfection. You could hear the bike before you saw it and of course it came with a swagger that only Marcus could give. Affectionately known as “Ghost” by his club brothers, he has left a legacy of true friendship and love with so many. His intellect and his compassion for others lead him to tutor kids at an after-school program in math and science, which he was especially talented. The smile that lit a room, the touch that meant so much, a love for all people, and the joy of his presence will truly be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Jamette “Tish” Baskfield, his father Marcus William Hayes, Sr.; his sisters, Marquel Renee and Miyah Nicole Hayes; his brother, Myles Alexander Hayes; two step parents, M. Barrett Baskfield, III and Dana Hayes; grandparents James, Jr and Mary Briscoe; four great-great aunts, Francis Curtis, Josephine Young, Mary Bertha Kelly, Ada Marie Kelly; three great-great uncles, John Henry Young, Joseph Johnson Kelly, and George “Garcia” Brown; god-parents, Dr. Linda Boyd and David Matthews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Roberta Hayes; maternal great-grandparents, James, Sr. and Catherine Briscoe and Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Kelly; and uncle, James C. Briscoe, III.

Family and friends will unite on Friday, July 22, 2016 for visitation at 10 am until time of service at 12 noon at First Missionary Baptist Church, 46370 Pegg Ln, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment to follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Thinking of You with Love
We thought of you with love today,
but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
and days before that too.
We think of you in silence,
we often speak your name.
All we have are memories,
and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
with which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping,
we have you in our hearts.
A million times we`ve wanted you.
A million times we cried.
If love could only have saved you,
you never would have died.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
But you didn`t go alone.
For a part of us went with you...
the day God called you Home.
