Margaret-Ann Crockford-Weber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 17 to Nov. 18, 2012.
1926-2012 It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret-Ann (Meg) Crockford-Weber announce her passing on Friday, November 9th 2012, at age 87. Meg was born in Axminster, England and studied Physiotherapy at St. Thomas's Hospital in London. She emigrated to Canada in 1952 and met her husband Hans in 1954 during a ski trip in the Rockies, where Meg was helping attend to victims of an avalanche. This was an auspicious start. From then on, their lives together were steeped in outdoor adventure. The Weber's moved to Cantley in 1961, where they were integral to the creation and development of the Nakkertok Ski Club. Hans and Meg were also keen supporters of the Canadian Ski Marathon, in which Meg participated up to the age of 82. She was also an enthusiastic paddler, paddling the Nahanni River in her 60's, and taking up dragon boating in her 70's. She paddled with the Cascades Club until the age of 86. As an artist, Meg was very active in the local art community as a sculptor, potter and painter. She was one of the original members of the National Capital Network of Sculptors.

Meg was predeceased by Hans in 2009, and by her son Adrian in 2000. She will be greatly missed by her sons Christoph and Richard (Josée), and by her grandchildren Fiona, Vicci, Bjorn, Tessum, Sabina, and Nansen. Meg will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a spirited adventurer, a passionate artist, and a gracious host to the many who passed through her door for friendship, hospitality, comfort, advice and a slice of "Aila Bread".

A celebration of Meg's life and art will be held at the Wakefield Community Centre, 38 Valley Drive, Wakefield QC, on Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to La Maison des Collines (lamaisondescollines.org)

Meg was a great addition to the Ottawa art community where I had a chance to spend many hours with her, as well as at the farm. She gave me one of the tabby kittens from her black cat and big Tomcat "Seven", just drove him over in the back of that big red truck she loved. A very generous person and a strong role model for women. Was glad to hear that Meg had a long life, and it is certainly a loss for all of us.

Meg was a powerhouse of energy and inspiration. She was always visible at the Canadian Ski Marathon and her wonderful sculpture will be remembered by many. We were very happy to meet both Meg and Hans many times and admired their energy and enthusiasm. Our condolences to all the Weber family. Rick and Chris Higgins

Meg has always been a personal inspiration as I grew up a skier in the region. Her energy and passion for the things she loved drew others to both care and make a difference. My thoughts are with you , the Weber family, remembering Meg and her very large influence on so many

On behalf of the Nakkertok XC Ski Club, we thank Meg, her late husband Hans, and their family, for their foresight to purchase and preserve the lands that we all now enjoy for our cross-country skiing and other outdoor activities in Gatineau and Val des Monts. Our condolences go out to the entire Weber family and grandchildren.
