Margaret Chenier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 19, 2006.
Margaret Grace Chenier June 23, 1932 – April 15, 2006 Margaret Grace, or more fondly known as "Peggy" Chenier, passed away peacefully at her home in Gig Harbor on Saturday, April 15, 2006. Peggy was born in Warrensburg, New York, spending her formable years on the East Coast. In her mid 20s, Peggy and her mother, Charlotte Hall moved to LA where she worked as the secretary to the Vice President of General Electric. As fate would have it, she met her first husband Leo M. Borgert of Gig Harbor at a live taping of the Lawerence Welk show. In 1958, Peggy moved to Gig Harbor where she married Leo. Together they started a family and raised two children, David and Gretchen. Peggy was a dedicated mother who devoted her time to her children and her home. It was rumored that one could truly eat off the floors in Peggy's house. Equally, Peggy paid just as much attention to the outside of her home. Gardening was a passion of her's and she never hesitated on pouring salt on any slug that dared to venture into her flowerbeds. Peggy never stopped - her boundless energy led to a more than 29-year career with the St. Nicholas Parish in Gig Harbor, principally as a bookkeeper but all who knew her, knew Peggy wore many hats. In 1986, Peggy received a mysterious phone call - it was, "a voice from the past," she loved to say when telling the story. Richard Chenier, her high school sweetheart. Richard had heard from relatives back east that the two had only been living miles apart yet neither knew. He decided to call her one night and the courtship was rekindled. In 1988, Peggy finally married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, and the past 18 years they shared together were the happiest of her life. Peggy is survived by her husband Richard Chenier, son David Borgert, daughter Gretchen Snyder, granddaughters Keri and Brynn Snyder (her pride and joy). This gracious woman will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. A mass and memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor. Please join the family in celebration of her life. Reception to follow after service. All who knew her better attend! Because she'll know if you didn't.

Dear Dick and Peggy's family,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss, but the obituary was beautiful! and really summed up her life. Peggy was a great person, and will be missed. I am a former member of St. Nick's and worked with her closely on several projects for many years. I will keep you all in my prayers, as you adjust to life without her.
