EAST FALMOUTH — Margaret Mary (Diver) Costello, 83, of East Falmouth, passed away, after a brief illness, on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Royal Nursing Center in Falmouth.

She was born in Boston on June 14, 1927 to James and Margaret (Phillips) Diver, both immigrants from Donegal, Ireland. Educated at St. Peter's School, Dorchester and St. Patrick's School in Roxbury (Class of 1944). From 1944-1965 she worked in the accounting department at First National in Somerville. On May 1, 1965 she married Richard J. Costello and had a daughter in 1966. Several months later on December 31, 1966 her husband died. She moved to Falmouth from Boston in 1980 and worked in the accounting department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) from 1983 to 1994.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, collecting jewelry, following the Red Sox, and shopping anywhere but especially at T.J. Maxx.

Surviving is her daughter, Margaret F. Costello of East Falmouth; sister, Patricia Hart of Dorchester; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Frances Boles.

Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth, MA 02540. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at St. Anthony's Church, 167 East Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28), East Falmouth, MA 02536 followed by burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony's Church at the above address.
