Margaret Ferster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 29 to Aug. 31, 2008.
FERSTER _ Margaret Mary (Peggy) May 12, 1925 - August 27, 2008 Peggy Ferster died peacefully August 27, 2008, in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the eldest daughter of Charles and Margaret O'Neill. The family immigrated to Canada prior to WWII and settled in Montreal. It was there Peggy met Jim, her husband to be, while he was on leave from the Canadian Navy. It was mutual love at first sight and they were married a year later. At the end of the war they settled in Calgary, Jim's hometown, and a city Peggy adopted as her own. Peggy was a dedicated homemaker and her life was devoted to the welfare and well being of her family. She was adored by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to mourn are Jim, her husband of sixty-five years and her four children, Dianna Smith (Gerald Porter), Nanton, Jim Jr. (Chris), Brisbane, Australia, Nancy Lou Morela (Carl), Calgary, and Terry (Randi), Red Deer. Peggy is also survived by her loving brother Charles O'Neill (Gracia), Banning, California and her most dearest cousin Margaret Simpson, Antrim, Northern Ireland. She leaves eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved and most treasured Sheltie "Highland Belle". After a debilitating injury Peggy battled much physical pain for the past ten years but always maintained a positive and pleasant outlook. She kept active until April of this year when breast cancer, bone cancer and lung cancer took its dreadful toll. The family would like to thank Doctors and Staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic for their care, with special thanks to Sharon Pahl, her home care nurse whose compassionate care thrice weekly and later daily visits helped Peggy immensely. Also our gratitude to Marlette Reed, Agape Manor chaplain, Father Raul Ranola and Father Silvano DeSouza of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish for their spiritual support. Peggy spent her last few weeks at the Agape Manor Hospice and the family extends their thanks and appreciation for the gentle care provided by the wonderful nurses and attendants with special thanks to Denise, Marta, Rhoda, Linda, Leo, Pauline, Robin, Karen, Sandra, Janet, Pat, Susanna, Alta, Elaine and so many others. You are truly earthbound angels. Friends are invited to a video tribute, eulogy and Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, 404 Northmount Place N.W., Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 beginning at 9:40 a.m. Father Raul Ranola will officiate. Refreshments will follow at the Corpus Christi Hall across the street from the Church. There will be no Interment. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Peggy's name directly to the Agape Hospice, 1302 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1B8 (Telephone 403-282-6588). My very very dear cousin, whom I loved dearly. Such a wonderful lady, so kind and thoughtfull, who always made my vacations in Canada so special. She was the last person who remembered my dad when he was young and always gave me a perspective of him which I did'nt have. I will miss knowing that she is on the other end of the phone and I know she is missed so very much by all her much loved family on whom she spent her life.

I was sorry to hear of Peggy's illness and passing. She was a good friend to my parents, Joe and Thirza Baker, and my mom often spoke fondly of Peggy. She will be missed dearly by many.

I was on my way back from Vancouver after dropping off my daughter and grandson when I stopped to see my aunt Arleen in Penticton only to find out that Peggy had passed on. My sympathies go out to Jim, Jim Jr., Di, Nancy and Terry. Peggy meant so much to me over the years with keeping an eye on my family (the Hunters) and being such a good neighbor and friend to us all. She was so special and will be greatly missed.

My loving Aunt--you always loved unconditionally...I loved your spirit, your kindness and your "love for life--especially your love of family--" you are an inspiration. But, you are with your Savior...we will hold on to the memories--you will NEVER be forgotten, especially that beautiful smile. I love you and Uncle Jim...your love for each other is an inspiration...we will be together again and it will then be forever...we will continue to love as you have. I love you...
