Margaret Gauld Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 13, 2005.
GAULD _ Margaret Jean (nee Doyle) Grateful for the many years she gave us, our family is saddened to announce the passing of Margaret Jean Gauld (nee Doyle) on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Mom was a wonderfully caring and loving person, who asked for little, but gave so much. We will all miss her. Margaret was born on a farm near Stony Beach, SK on November 20, 1915. She grew up and took her early schooling in and around the Stony Beach area, leaving to complete her high school education in Acme, AB. Her experiences there, and her caring nature, brought her to choose a career in nursing and graduated from the Moose Jaw Provindence Hospital in 1937. It was at this time that she met her future husband Alex. After completing her RN exams, she nursed in Weston, Ontario at the Tuberculosis Sanitorium and at the Weyburn General Hospital. During the war years, she joined the Medical Corps in Regina as a nursing sister, and earned the rank of Lieutenant hoping to get posted overseas. Instead, she joined Alex in Montreal and they married in July of 1942. After the war, they returned to Regina. In 1959, Mom returned to her nursing profession and nursed at the Regina Geriatric Rehabilitation Center until 1962 when the family moved to Calgary. There she spent the next ten years at the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital, eventually becoming the Hospital's Administrator. In 1972, Margaret and Alex returned to Regina for a couple of years, then retired to Victoria, BC. Health issues for both of them caused a return to Saskatoon in the mid 90's. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Edith Doyle; her sister Muriel Dodds; and brother Jim Doyle. She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years Alex; her daughter Larree (Norman) Swinnerton and their children, Graeme (Colleen), Gordon, and Donovan (Jackie) Swinnerton all of Saskatoon; and her son Brian (Joan) Gauld and their children, Colleen and Russell of Calgary; her sisters, Joy Gerrish, Elsie (Vic) Read, and Frances (Don) McNabb. Also left to cherish her memory are her four great-grandchildren, Taryn, Josh, Julia and Alex Swinnerton. Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Luther Care Special Home for their care of both Margaret and Alex over the past few years. As well, we wish to thank Dr. A.J. Harrington, the staff at Marg's Care Home and Unit 5300 at the Royal University Hospital for their recent care. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saskatoon, SK (East on 8 Street turn right before the railway tracks) with Reverend Don Barss officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Margaret's memory may be made to LutherCare Communities (1212 Osler Street, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0T9). Family and friends may send email condolences to [email protected] attention David Schurr Telephone: 306-477-4400.
