Margaret Huebner

Margaret (Sorenson) Huebner, 71, a longtime resident of Rochester, died at her home on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Salem Road Covenant church at 3401 Salem Road SW, Rochester, with Pastor Mark Evinger officiating.

She was born to Hans and Gladys Sorenson on April 16, 1944, in Ada, Minn. She attended school in Ada. After graduation, she went on to attend Moorhead State College, where she studied to be a teacher. She fulfilled her dream since age 5 to be a teacher like her mother. She taught elementary school starting in Fargo, N.D. She met her future husband, Jerome Huebner, at Moorhead State. They were married on March 21, 1965. Upon his graduation from Moorhead State in 1968, they moved to Rochester, where he was employed at IBM. Margaret went on to teach full-time elementary school in the Rochester schools until her children were born. She gave up teaching to be a full-time mom. Once her children were older, she resumed teaching as a regular substitute teacher in Rochester until her death.

Although her death may seem to be a tragedy, her life was a triumph. She was devoted to the Lord and loved people. She was always finding ways to serve others. In church, she taught Sunday school and led many children's activities and ministries like Compassion International and Operation Christmas Child.

She loved scrapbooking, and especially enjoyed making many scrapbooks for her grandchildren and others.

She liked to travel and cook. Each year, she had a baking day in November or December with her girls and friends. She was constantly writing letters to her extended family.

Survivors include her husband; son, Joel (Jenny); daughter, Tani (Chad) Helgemoe; daughter, Larissa Michels; brother, Gerald (Sharon); sister, Helen (Virgil) Stenberg; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Allen (Cammie); Eddie (Shirley); Burton (Viola); and Sandy (Eileen).

Memorials are preferred to Samaritan's Purse/Operation Christmas Child or Compassion International.
