Margaret Jacobson

Funeral services for Margaret Jacobson will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the chapel in the Meadows Assisted Living in Grand Meadow, with Pastor Beth Krolak officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Friday at Grand Meadow Assisted Living. Hindt Funeral Home of Grand Meadow is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Jacobson, 94, of Grand Meadow, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center.

Margaret Christina Jacobson was born Aug. 31, 1921, to Solmon and Marie (Feuerhak) Jacobson in Austin. She grew up on a farm near Austin.

In 1941, Margaret graduated from Austin High School. After graduation, she joined the U.S. Navy, and was part of WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Service). She served 18 months during World War II on a base outside Washington, D.C., where she did secretarial work at various offices. After World War II ended and the Korean Crisis started, Margaret was a year too old to rejoin the Navy, so she joined the U.S. Marines, where she served 3 1/2 years. When she returned home after the war, she held various secretarial jobs and took care of her parents.

She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church for many years until moving to the Meadows Assisted Living in 2012, and was a member of Paws and Claws. She enjoyed going to movies, going on long walks, playing solitaire, and doing the daily crossword puzzles. Margaret enjoyed her peaceful life at the assisted living center with good company, fine foods, Bible study, church, and bingo.

Margaret is survived by her special friends, Lisa and Bradley Whelan, of Grand Meadow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Solmon and Marie, and beloved brother, Ralph Edward Jacobson.
