Resident of Alameda

Margaret, a lifelong Alamedan, and a force of nature to all who knew her, passed away peacefully in her beloved home in Alameda. Margaret will be remembered for her unparalleled, phenomenal combination of creativity and business acumen, and endless spunk. She will also be remembered for her fierce love of her human and animal family - her daughter Diane and husband Tony (both now deceased), her surviving daughter Lisa and son-in-law Bill, surviving cat and dog Little Bit and Barney, and generations of dogs and cats over the course of her life.

Once you got to know Margaret, you were forever on her mind. There was nothing this tough cat and dog lady loved more than giving advice, direction, and encouragement, solicited or unsolicited, about one's goals, relationships, and housing aspirations. An introverted extrovert, she took great pleasure in serving as an expert source of information and connection for many.

Margaret cherished teaching glass painting to generations of women (and a few men) through Piedmont adult education and for many years into her eighties in her home studio. In the heyday of china and glass painting, she authored books on the subject and created a line of custom paints, converting her passion into a robust mail order business named "Lamps by Lomba."

Later in life, Margaret used her keen intellect and business savvy as a realtor, representing her clients with a determination usually reserved for litigators. In Alameda and beyond, Margaret was known as a professional without peer who took great joy and pride in helping people find homes, connecting them with just the right people for any projects that needed doing, and ensuring her clients were exponentially satisfied.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Lisa and her son-in-law Bill, whom she absolutely adored, and nieces and nephews she treasured. She will be missed by her very dear painting students and friends, Bay Street neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing this determined, incredibly strong woman for whom fairness, directness, and friendship meant everything. Even with all of the beautiful painting she left behind, Margaret's true legacy will always be her relationships, imbued with loving seriousness, and often a glass of red wine.

Her daughter Lisa is forever grateful for the loving, impeccable care provided by Margaret's caregivers Ana and Zerina, the palliative team at Highland Hospital, and Sonata hospice professionals - all of whom ensured her peaceful transition.

To remember Margaret, please consider a gift in her honor to the East Bay SPCA at eastbayspca.org/how-to-help/ways-to-give/make-a-tribute-gift or mail to East Bay SPCA, 8323 Baldwin Street, Oakland, CA 94621.

Yesterday I went to THE CLAY PEOPLE shop in Richmond and an estate truck was donating wonderful china paints and kilns. I just happened to be there. What a blessing. I am an artist and doll maker in the Bay Area for 56 years. I brought some things home with me. I am a teacher also. When I went through her things I could see how she loved her art. Much to my surprise she and I have so much in common. I am a teacher too. Margret will go on blessing others through me and my teaching. I am so blessed. She will be missed by all those she touched. I only wish I could have met her.

Throughout our house I see wonderful painted china, all I credit to Margaret and her evening classes held in studio at home. Her magic brush turned my feeble work into masterpieces. All smiles turned to Tony when he walked into the studio and said "hello ladies and Mike". Her magic extends far beyond Alameda because I gifted many of my china pieces to family and friends. We moved in 2022 but prior to that I would drive to her and Tony´s house at the end of the cul de sac, many times catching her pruning roses. Margaret and Tony memories (and stories) will always be a smiles to me.

Margaret was my wife sheri"s aunt. My earliest recollections of her were from our engagement party, and I was accepted into the family with her and Tony from then on. Always included us in most everything they did. As time went on sheri took china painting from Margaret and we were linked in even more for the everyday functions of painting and real estate. Tony dragged me into the Elks club and I dragged him into the Ligure Club, He loved the food and camaraderie that we all enjoyed .
Maragaret was a Shrewd and highly intelligent person when it came to business and helping others. I learned a lot about real estate from her that came in handy as time went on. She always remembered the small details of others whenever something came up, like a birthday or anniversary she would always have a card for you.
After Tony Passed she leaned on me a lot and sometimes I would be at her house helping her with her computer or Things around the house more than once a day. Always tried to help as much as I could so life would be a little easier on her.
I will miss her very much and I hope that she is very happy with Tony and Diane and the rest of her family who have passed.

My wife and I are saddened to hear about Margaret´s passing. Margaret was married to my cousin Tony, and she was truly a blessing to the Lomba family. We cherish the memories of time spent with Margaret, Tony, and their lovely daughters Diane and Lisa. Margaret and the girls gave Tony a purpose for living. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lisa and her family during this difficult time.

Margaret was my mother's sister. Margaret was 15 yrs old when I came along. The earliest clear memory was riding around with her in her 56 Chevy. I couldn't see over the dash board and to this day I can still see the part of that dash broad in my mind's eye. She told me as an adult that she wanted to show me off. I remember spending a lot of time at her house after her and Uncle Tony got married and eventually bought a house a couple of blocks from our house. I attended her China Painting classes for many years. We shared a love of animals, lots of cats and a couple of some dogs. Two of my cats I have today were 2 kittens that got separated from their litter at 4 weeks old. Uncle Tony actually bottle fed these 2 tiny kittens until one of them bit the nipple off the bottle. Since I didn't have any cats at the time and was looking for a pair of cats Margaret decided I should have these kittens. Those kittens are now 13 years old. They turned out to have all the Siamese markings, long hair and white socks on their back feet. We spent lots of time together through out our lives. I know you know Aunt Margaret that I love you dearly and all the great times we had together. Now you are reunited with Uncle Tony, Diane, Grandma and Grandpa and my mother and father. The world will not be the same for me without you in it.

I met Margaret at Encinal High School after moving to Alameda from New York State. She was so friendly and kind which meant a lot to me as a newcomer.
It was always wonderful to see her and Tony at the reunions.

It happened that I was a caregiver of Margaret and spent some of her last moments with her. I found her as someone with a big heart and her love for people and animals. Even then, in her condition, Margaret always worried if we got paid and if everything is in place.

I first met Margaret when we were around 4 years old. She was Margaret Gibson then. She lived across the street from a family friend of my parents who had a daughter my age. The three of us use to play together. Then through Encinal High. Rest in Peace Margaret! Together again with Tony June & Jim Ogden

Aunt Margaret excuded elegance and class. She gave my mother a beautiful hand painted clock and lamp. They were perfection and they were signed, which was very fancy by our standards. The clock remained in their kitchen for over forty years.
I've thought of Margaret and uncle Tony often. They lived a wonderful life, contributed so much to the community, and will never be forgotten.
