Margaret Lowery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 25 to Oct. 4, 2017.
Lowery, Margaret

In the surrounding presence & love of her Lord & Savior, Margaret Jane Lowery, of Townsend, laid her head to rest on Thursday, September 21, 2017. An active birder, gardener, Lioness, member of St. Mary of the Lakes parish, NORTA member and member of the local Homemakers Club, Margaret enjoyed spending time with animals and people alike.

Margaret was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 31, 1929 to Thomas and Dorothy (Eslick) Lantzas. She graduated from Amundsen High School in 1947.

Margaret married Eugene Neumeier on April 28, 1950. They lived and worked in Green Bay, Wisconsin where they raised three children. She spent weekends with Gene working hard to create an "up north" cabin for her family on Horn Lake in Townsend. The family made many fond memories at the cabin including time around the fire making maple syrup, fishing the lakes & hunting the land. Margaret made that cabin her home & has resided there since Gene's death in the fall of 1984.

In her later years, Margaret married Richard (Dick) Lowery on St. Patrick's Day 1990. They enjoyed 26 yrs. together traveling to birder destinations and cataloguing the different species they spotted. She delighted in her volunteer work at the White Lake School and her charitable work as a part of the Homemakers Club. Her students at White Lake could always count on her dressing up for her Halloween birthday. Her charismatic spirit will be greatly missed by her family, friends, community, students & the many animals that she cared for including her dog Ella.

Margaret is survived by her children, Kenneth (Cindy) Neumeier, Catherine and Debra Neumeier and sister-in-law Audrey Calba. She is also survived by Richard's children: Lynette (Tim) Bodoh, Patrick (Denise) Lowery, Kerry (Pat) Rocole, and Nick (Nicole) Lowery. She has twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, including her namesake, baby Margaret. Margaret will also be greatly missed by her dear friends Jim and Ruth. She was preceded in death by her husband's Gene Neumeier and Richard Lowery, her parents Thomas and Dorothy Lantzas, her little brother Harry Thomas "Tommy" Lantzas and brother in-law Roger Calba. She is also preceded in death by her companions over the years Boots, Sparky, Snookie, Ginger, & Matty.

Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 am Friday, September 29, 2016 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, Lakewood. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation with Fr. Philip Dinh-Van-Theip officiating. Burial will take place at the Townsend Cemetery. Weber-Hill Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family requests donations be made for a scholarship established in Margaret's name.

Hugs to her family with my sympathy. She was indeed an energetic, lovable woman, not afraid to try anything and filled her life with caring activities. She joined my afternoon exercise class at the White Lake Fitness Center for awhile and added a spark of humor. She radiated caring and love. She will be missed by all the students in the White Lake School where she volunteered so much as well as the community. It was a blessing to have known her.
