Margaret McLuskey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 1 to May 2, 2010.
McLUSKEY , Margaret Anne (English) April 15, 1942 - April 28, 2010 Margaret passed away at Foothills Country Hospice this week, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Born in Coronation, Margaret spent her early years in Strathmore, later moving with her family to Calgary where she attended Viscount Bennett High School and the University of Calgary. After marrying Jim McLuskey in 1962, Margaret embarked on a career in teaching, working at a number of Calgary elementary schools while raising daughters Carolynn and Krista. The family moved to Millarville in 1980 and she began teaching in the Foothills School District. She taught at Turner Valley and later at Red Deer Lake School, where she remained until retirement. Margaret was active in many Millarville community programs, including Junior Guild, the Millarville Library and the Millarville Fair. After retirement, she spent many happy hours golfing in Calgary and Turner Valley with her group of special friends from Red Deer Lake and Millarville. Margaret enjoyed theatre and volunteered often in various Calgary live theatres, also serving on the executive committee of the Canadian Women's Club. Margaret loved to travel and enjoyed trips with friends and brother Leroy (Karen) English, returning with great photos and stories from Greece, Egypt, Russia and Europe. Margaret's real love was being with family. She served as Jim's chauffeur and an organizer for almost every Mountain Shadows Gymnastics Club meet over a fifteen-year period. Fairmont was special to Margaret and many happy times were spent with family at their time share, and in later years, their condominium. Every possible golfing day began with a trip up Mountainside's back nine with Jim as caddy and advice giver. Family was always first with Margaret, and whether it was summer holidays at Fairmont, Thanksgiving or Christmas, she always had the best food and some special treats for her friends and family. Two of Margaret's most enjoyable recent times were the family holidays to Hawaii (January 2008), and Mexico (January 2010). In Mexico, Margaret ziplined and rappelled down a cliff for the first time. Margaret is survived by husband Jim of forty-eight years; daughter Carolynn (Sierra, Doug and Chance) and smaller daughter, Krista; brother, Leroy (Karen, Kyle, Christine and Courtney). A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at the Millarville Race Track Hall on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests that in memory of Margaret, her great golfing friends pick a day when the sun is bright and the breeze is cool in the leaves, and go an extra nine for her. To her numerous friends please spend a few extra special hours with your families, remembering that in a heartbeat, your whole life could change. Margaret was one of my longest standing clients, always greeted me with that big smile of hers. Over the many years we had traded tidbits about our families, some (only your hairdresser knows for sure) stuff , drank lots of tea, exchanged travel stories.I still can't believe thats over.I will miss her for a long time to come.My heart goes out to Jim and the girls.

It was great sadness when our family heard of Margarets passing. With being involved with the gymnastics club, Mountain Shadows, from day 1 we have known Margaret for many years. Margaret would always be in the stands at every competition cheering for all us girls!
With countless hours spent at the gym training, the McLuskey's became a second family to ours.
We know you are always looking down on us all! Miss you always!

Margaret was a great colleague. I found her friendship after retirement. She was obviously well respected and loved by other colleagues, and it was a pleasure knowing her. My heartfelt condolences go to the family, who, I'm sure, will sorely miss her.

Mrs. McLuskey was one of my favorite teachers of all time. She was very active in the community and will be very missed by all.
