Margaret Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2024.
Margaret Anne Murphy, 69, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, in Wyckoff, NJ surrounded by the family she loved and adored. A 40-year resident of Midland Park, Margaret dedicated her life to her family, her passion for ancestry, and her career. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Jennifer and Daniel and Daniella; her siblings and their spouses, Mary and John Brinkofski, Bridget and Timothy Murphy, Elizabeth Murphy; her former husband, Robert Anderson along with beloved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, Kiernan, Egan, Grayson, and Gabriella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Daniel Murphy and Margaret Grace O'Connor Murphy, as well as her brother, Joseph Daniel John Murphy.

Born in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1954, Margaret attended St. Peter's College before earning her law degree from Seton Hall Law School. Her hard work and academic perseverance led her to a distinguished career in the Legal Department at the Bank of New York on Wall Street in New York City, where she was highly respected for her professionalism and dedication.

Margaret's favorite hobby and passion was her research of family history. She spent much of her free time at the National Archives in New York City or the Family History Center in Emerson, NJ. She much enjoyed the "challenge" of tracing her family's Irish lineage as well as helping others with completing their family trees.

Margaret's life was marked by her unwavering support and love for her family. She received much gratification and amusement being with her grandchildren whenever she got the chance. From countless walks at the Wildlife Center to hours spent at local playgrounds, Margaret's youthfulness and love of "play" was always on display with her grandchildren. Her legacy will continue to live on through them.

"May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Her family will hold a private memorial to honor her life and achievements.

I am so heartbroken to hear of Margaret's passing. I loved seeing her on Wednesday's at the History Center. We all looked forward to sharing a laugh, a memory each week and to research our family's Ancestry. Sending out heartfelt thoughts and prayers to her family, to which she loved so much. With Sympathy, Barbara
