Margaret Nichols Obituary
Margaret worked for Bates College for almost 40 years, retiring as Registrar. She loved Bates College and enjoyed her work. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the simple things in life. She was a very active member of The Auburn United Methodist Church, and the W.L.U. She also volunteered for many years with The Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice and for WCBB Channel 10. She leaves her son Jim Taylor of Lewiston. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer Nichols.
Visitation will be held on Monday March 27 from 9-10 AM at The Auburn United Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 10 AM. Committal will be held in the Spring at Riverside Cemetery in Lewiston. Those wishing to make memorial donations in her name may do so to The Schooner Estates Advisor Committee, 200 Stetson Rd. Auburn, ME 04210 or to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice 15 Strawberry Ave Lewiston, ME 04240.

I met Margaret through my mother at Schooner. Their Bates connection had immediately made them good friends. After my mother passed it was Margaret that helped me handle many of her things. What a blessing she was. I was just going through some papers and found a card from her that prompted me to check on her. That is when I learned that she had passed. I am so sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful lady.

My condolences to you Jim on the loss of your Mom.
I have my computer defaulted to the Sun Journal obituaries when I first get on the computer each day so I can check to see if I'm still alive. LOL :>)
Unfortunately, my 2008 MacBook crashed a few weeks ago and it took me awhile to get a replacement - so I missed seeing that Margaret had died and her funeral service at the Park Avenue Methodist Church the end of March.
I always enjoyed running into your Mom over the years and having long talks. I last had the pleasure of enjoying her company joining her at a Benefit Pancake Breakfast at Schooner Estates a couple (+ or -) years ago.
Please let me know the date and time of the committal service at Riverside Cemetery so I can attend.

My heartfelt condolences for you. I never knew your Mom but I knew you. There is an old saying, if you want to know the parent look at the child. I remember you with all the good qualities used to describe your Mom. When you miss her look in the mirror. May God give your heart peace and comfort.

Dear Jim, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I wish I were still in Maine, today, instead of California. You, John Labrecegue, and Mike Drake were my three classmates who came to Fortin's Funeral Home, when my beloved grandfather passed away. I'll never forget seeing the three of you together, and the joy you brought to me during one of the most traumatic times in my life. I wish I could do the same for you. Sadly, all I can do is send my heartfelt sorrow for your heartache.

I first met your mother at a bowling event and had a wonderful time.
I remember her engaging smile. She was a good conversationalist and made everyone around her feel comfortable.

Margaret greeted me as a freshman in 1953 and welcomed me back as a Dean in 1967- both times with that BIG, beautiful smile and a wonderful welcome... You truly represented Bates with greatness... Thank you, Margaret- I know the good Lord has reserved a room for you!!!

Margaret was a beloved friend and volunteer at Maine Public Broadcasting both during pledges and for The Great TV Auction. I felt very blessed to have known her and have had the opportunity to work with her. She was one of the funniest and sweetest ladies I've ever known. Rest in peace, dear Margaret!

Margaret was such a joy in my life! I first met her at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, where as a volunteer, she helped me do the Bereavement mailings every month. So full of joy, grace, and kindness to everyone she came in contact with. Then we were reunited at Auburn UMC where I work as their secretary - seeing her almost every week once more brought me joy! Jim, May you find peace and joy in the knowledge that your mother made everyone smile!
