Margaret (Peg) Craven Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2024.
Margaret Jean (Peg) Craven, aged 79, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, in Ft. Lupton, Colorado.

Born on October 29, 1944, in Johnson City, New York, she entered the world with her fraternal twin sister Martha (Marty). She enjoyed growing up in the woods of upstate New York with her 4 siblings. Margaret graduated from Susquehanna Valley High School in Conklin, NY and attended SUNY at Cortland, NY as a physical education major.

In 1969 Margaret moved to Boulder, Colorado and this is the general area she would spend the remainder of her vibrant life.

Margaret was a beloved figure in her family and community, known for her kindness and loving nature. Her children referred to her as "the universal mom" as she would often listen, console and consult them and any friends in need. She was a true ecologist and champion of the earth. Margaret's hobbies were a reflection of her love for life and nature.

Especially dear to her were willows. She used willow branches in her rustic furniture and basketry creations and referred to her property as "Willowhaven". This is where she passed away with a view of a willow tree outside of her window.

An avid animal lover, she often took in strays and rescue pets. Her love of gardening was reflected in the beautiful flowers, plants and vegetables she cultivated and used in her amazing cooking and baking. Her sense of humor touched all whom she met. Margaret was quick witted and would commonly whip out catch phrases she had heard from television, movies or other people and use them at the perfect moments to cause hilarity beyond measure and often leave her audience in tears of laughter. She was one funny lady, that's for sure. She was also a lifelong musician, playing the fiddle and singing vocals with the band she and her husband Paul were members of along with her brother Ray Ingraham, his wife, Susan Ingraham and some other musicians. The Oldest Living Garage Band, which she performed with during the 80s and 90s, was fairly successful, playing at local small venues and parties around the Boulder, CO area.

Professionally, Margaret was a skilled chair weaver/repairer since the early 1970s, specializing in cane and rush furniture repair. Her artistry extended to basket making and twig furniture, which garnered recognition including being featured in a book and purchased by notable rock legend, Joe Cocker. Some of her other twig creations were purchased by Disney to use as rustic frames for signage at one of their theme parks. She also taught a basketry class at CU Boulder.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Paul Craven, Her 5 children, Heather Kuhn, Heidi Ekrem, Holly Bush, Pam Lawrence, and Cody Craven. Her grandchildren Dylan, Charlie, Elliot, Cameron, Christian, Annika, Callae, Elise, Bonnie, Ares, and Finn, and her great- grandchild, Sebastian Hong Kuo Kuhn as well as her remaining siblings Jim Ingraham, Martha (Marty) Baker and Virginia (Gini) McNair

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Lowell (Bud) Ingraham, and her younger brother, Ray Ingraham. She leaves behind a legacy of love, art, and music that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 12 pm
