Margaret "Peg" (McCracken) Caudell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2025.
Nashville Margaret "Peg" (McCracken) Caudell Margaret "Peg" (McCracken) Caudell, of Nashville, Indiana passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, having been surrounded by the love of friends and family near and far. Peg is survived by her cousin David Lathrop of Virginia Beach, VA, her nephew Chris Nelson & family (wife Nina Arnold and son Finn Nelson) of West Hartford, CT, and her niece Heather Nelson Koch & family (husband Randy Koch and son William) of Portland, OR. She is also survived by nieces and nephews on her late husband Paul's side of the family, including Alan Caudell, Paul Caudell, Jeani Filip, Chris Caudell, Bob Caudell, and their families. Peg was predeceased by her husband, Paul Caudell, and her two sisters, Emily (McCracken) Raymond and Susan (McCracken) Herring.

Born in 1944 and raised in Stratford, CT, Peg was the daughter of the late Ruth (Lathrop) Stone and William McCracken. She and her family spent memorable years living next to the Stratford Point Lighthouse in Lordship, and she forever after loved lighthouses and the sound of the ocean. She graduated from Bunnell High School in Stratford and Douglass College at Rutgers University before developing a career in graphic design.

Peg lived in Boston, MA and Ft. Lauderdale in her 20s and 30s. In Florida, she worked on publications for the International Game Fish Association. She also met an adventurous man named Paul Caudell, who was filled with love and life. They wed in 1984 and lived their lives together in Nashville, Indiana. Their rural property out by Yellowwood State Forest was a gathering place for friends and family and a source of many memories, good times, and stories. Peg had a long tenure working on publications at PDK International in Bloomington, IN, and assisted Paul with his business. After Paul passed away, Peg moved to Bloomington, IN for several years, and worked a job she loved helping seniors at Bell Trace. She eventually returned to Nashville for her final years. In every place, she loved and nurtured people, pets, and plants.

In addition to graphic design and gardening, Peg expressed her creativity in painting and crafts that she often gifted to family and friends. She experimented with landscape and still life painting to capture things she loved - particularly people, pets, and flowers. Peg saw good in people and beauty in the world. She remained deeply inspired by and appreciative of the ongoing correspondence and connections she had with folks - from her oldest friends from childhood, college, and early days in Indiana to newer friendship that blossomed in later life. Peg's talent and caring compassion knew no bounds. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Donations can be made in memory of Peg Caudell at Indiana's Brown County Humane Society.

There will be no services at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington, IN.
