Margaret "Peggy" Evans Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Margaret Joyce McBride Evans, lovingly known as Peggy, Mom, and Glamma, passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 85. She was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend-known for her strength, warmth, intelligence, and unwavering love.

Peggy was born on August 4, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, to Kenneth Jamieson McBride and Margaret Anna Hunsche. She was the third of four children, preceded in death by her sister Jean and brothers Ken and Ron. Some of her favorite stories were of the adventures she had with her brothers-getting into mischief with Ken, often with Ron as the good-natured recipient.

She spent many joyful summers with her cousins at Winona Lake, a place woven into her happiest childhood memories. A graduate of Miami University in Ohio, Peggy worked for United Airlines as a stewardess based in New York-a memorable chapter that reflected her love of travel and adventure. In 1978, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived her faith quietly and steadfastly.

Peggy was active and engaged throughout her life. She was "forever 29," a mantra that matched her vitality and outlook. She took early morning walks, mowed her own lawn, and embraced adventure. She loved a good card game, especially late-night rounds of Phase 10, where the goal was always to make her laugh so hard she'd cry.

She raised six children: Mike, Rob, Brian, Meghan, Alison, and Erin. Peggy was more than a mother-she was their best friend, their greatest champion, and the center of their world. Her love was fierce, steady, and unconditional. She built a tight-knit family, grounded in love, loyalty, and always being there for one another.

She was known for her signature hairstyle, worn nearly unchanged for 60 years; her perpetual Diet Pepsi; and her precise way of doing things. She listened deeply and, when asked for advice, offered guidance that was thoughtful, trusted, and made those she loved feel seen and valued.

Peggy is survived by her husband Bob; children Mike, Rob, Brian, Meghan, Alison, and Erin; 24 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

In honor of Peggy, the family invites you to plant something beautiful, go for a long walk, crack open a Diet Pepsi-or be someone's greatest advocate, just as she always was.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in her memory.

Yesterday

My deepest condolences to the family of Peggie Evans. My husband and myself became friends with Peggie when she lived in an apartment building we managed. Then we met Bob after they were engaged. I believe we´re talking about 1966.
After she and Bob were married, we used to visit with them in Walnut Creek at their first house. Peggie stayed with us when she was pregnant with Robbie when Bob would be out of town on a flight and it got close to the time for the baby to be born. A lot of years invested in that friendship. We will miss her. Lloyd and Sally EINSPAHR.
