Margaret Ann "Peggy" Preston

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Preston, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, in hospice care at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota.

Peggy was born June 3, 1927, to James and Ruth (Earl) Park in Caro where her father was an egg distributor for the family business of American Stores. She graduated from Caro High School, then attended Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio, and Michigan State College in East Lansing. She married Edward Preston on September 17, 1949, at her parents' home in Caro. The couple lived in Michigan, Washington, D.C., Indiana, and California, before settling in Fargo, N.D. for nearly thirty-five years. They retired to Green Valley, AZ where she lived for over twenty years. In 2020, she moved to the Minneapolis area to be near her two children.

Peggy was a devoted wife and mother who thoroughly enjoyed her role as a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, reading and especially playing bridge. She was active in her churches for many years, serving on various committees. Through the First Presbyterian Church of Fargo, she founded the Fargo Town Hall Lecture Series in 1971, which still runs and continues to donate its profits to community charitable needs. She was always proud of her Irish heritage and was delighted to explore her ancestry through a family trip to Northern Ireland at age 89.

Peggy is survived by her children, James Preston (Marya) and Mary Benson (Keith); grandchildren Rachel Benson and Joel Benson; nephews and nieces: James Rawson, Laurie (Sam) Treadway, Mark Preston, Tammy Preston, Linda Preston and Jana (Matt) Serbenski. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Doris Rawson (Delbert); and brother-in-law, Philip Preston (Kathleen).

Interment service with family October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro, Michigan.

Peggy was my Mother, (Helen)'s best friend, all the way from grade school in Caro Michigan to college at MSU, to retirement in Green Valley AZ. In the retirement years, I would visit my parents in Green Valley, we would usually have a party and Peggy would attend, which is how I came to know her. She would babysit for my baby daughter, Sandy, if my parents and I wanted to go on a child free outing. Sandy had a great time staying at Peggy's house, as she was so good with children. Peggy visited my Mother's bedside shortly before she passed away, and attended her memorial where she told heart-warming stories about she and my Helen's college days together. Mostly, I will remember Peggy as one of the sweetest and most gentle people I have ever known, and as a true "expert in living" displayed by her healthy long life of 97 years!
