Margaret Shaw Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
Margaret Bannan Shaw, known to friends as "Peggy" and to family as "Mema," passed away on July 3, 2025 of natural causes. She was 94 years old.

A native of Media, Pennsylvania, Peggy was born November 2, 1930 to Joseph A. Bannan, Sr. and Marian Cosgriff Bannan. She graduated from Media High School in 1949.

Peggy married the love of her life, William "Bill" Shaw, on October 4, 1952 and the two enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage together before Bill passed away in 2006.

After raising her three children, Peggy enjoyed a late-life career in property management, retiring from S.L. Nusbaum Realty Company in Norfolk, Virginia in 1986. She was a certified Master Gardener, and in retirement, spent her time reading, cooking, traveling and volunteering with Meals on Wheels.

Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Brian Shaw and wife Jayne; Barbara Hanson and husband Scott; and Brad Shaw and wife Mary; as well as more than 30 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whose lives Peggy touched.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marian; her beloved husband Bill; her sister Jeanne Bannan Platek of Huron, Ohio; and her brother Joseph A. Bannan of Vero Beach, Florida.

The Shaw family will honor Peggy's life well lived this fall at a small private ceremony at the Albert G. Norton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to Bill, a U.S. Army veteran.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peggy's name are suggested to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, www.t2t.org.

What a lovely tribute to Mema. My memories of her started when Jennifer and Matthew were engaged and she attended a bridal shower in Roanoke. What a lovely lady she was! Then there were all the baby showers and birthday parties for the grandchildren (her GREAT grandchildren) that followed. What happy memories with Mema they were! I am so terribly sorry for your loss.
