Margaret Taylor Obituary

Published by Chicago Tribune on Apr. 15, 2023.
Margaret "Peggy" Pole Taylor, 93, died peacefully on April 6, 2023, surrounded by family. Born Peggy Ruth Pole on March 30, 1930, she was married for 65 years to Kent Parsons Taylor, who predeceased her in 2019. Mother of Craig (Leslie), Chris (Julia), Kent (Susan), and Chandler (Liesl). Dear grandmother of Casey (Jennifer), Kyle, Suzanne, Karen, Bailey, Jordan, Linden, Trey, Kent, Caleb, Katie, and great-grandmother of Jacob. Peggy was an educator, watercolor painter, avid reader, and devoted friend to many. She received a BA from Denison University in 1952 and earned a Masters in Education from the University of Chicago in 1953. Peggy was an elementary school teacher, spent many years teaching her children and grandchildren, served as the Director of Christian Education at the First Congregational Church of Western Springs for 15 years, inspired countless watercolor students, and taught crafts and enduring values to campers at Camp Highlands for Boys in Wisconsin. She spent over 35 summers at Camp Highlands and at her beloved family cottage on Razorback Lake. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church, involved in Women's Society, Questers, Music Club, musical productions, outreach and worship services. Peggy was a Sustaining Partner of, and selected plays and cast members for, the Theater of Western Springs. Her legacy of love and service, and thoughtfulness toward others expressed among many ways by the multitude of notes written, will be treasured among her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Kent and Margaret Pole Taylor Scholarship at Denison University, Granville, OH 43023; or the First Congregational Church, 1106 Chestnut St., Western Springs, IL, 60558. A memorial service followed by a reception is planned for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the First Congregational Church of Western Springs.

Thinking of a woman that every American woman would benefit from imitating - the wonderful presence of Peggy Taylor - True Highlands Woman. Peggy, I think of you and Kent every time I walk, run or drive by the cottage on Razorback lake. Miss you, great one.

Aunt Peg, Uncle Kent, Aunt Nancy, and my Mom were the soul of our family since Auntie, Joe and Joan, and Ott and Iva passed. So many beautiful memories; an era has ended.

Love to the Taylor family as the sands of time shift poignantly with Peggy´s departure and the end of a generation. My love and support go to Craig, Chris, Kent, and Chandler during this time of sentimental reflection on a beautiful life. Peggy led an exemplary life of constant service. She was so `there.´ She `represented´ for her family, her friends and community, and her camp. The Taylor cottage won´t be the same without Kent and Peggy, but the generations that follow know this already. The magical place will always carry their spirits. I will say hello to them every time I walk up the stairs to that glorious view of Razorback Lake. Peace to Kent, Peg, and all Taylors!

Aunt Peg was a great woman and I have many fond memories of my visits to Clausen Ave in Western Springs as well as my summer at Camp Highlands. My sincere condolences to Craig, Kent Jr., Chris, and Chan.
