Margaret Whinihan

Margaret Anastasia Whinihan passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 94, 2 months before her 95th birthday. Born on June 8, 1928 to Edward and Mary Ellen Carey. Her siblings Vincent, Edmund, Mary Ellen and Monica Zollars preceded her in death.

Margaret was a lifetime Seattle resident. She graduated from both Holy Names Academy and Seattle University. She met her future husband, Thomas James Whinihan at Seattle University. They married June 9, 1951 at St. John's Catholic Church, together in marriage for 48 years until his passing in 1999. They raised four children, have 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Margaret was a loving wonderful mother, always there for her children, no matter their need or age. She loved baking for us, especially cookies. She volunteered for many ministries during her life, both at church and in the community. She was a strong person, gracefully overcoming many challenges throughout her life. Margaret loved being with friends and family. It seems wherever she was, she'd find someone to talk to and discover they would know someone in common.

Margaret is survived by Mary Ellen Whinihan-Flann (Richard), Joanne MacDonald (Andrew), Teresa Jean Rigsby (Chuck) and Thomas James Whinihan, Jr. (Debrah Wigner). Her grandchildren are Richard and Thomas Flann, Peter, Stephen and Charles MacDonald, Patrice Basilonia, Jennifer Kanzler and Timothy Nicholson.

The family would like to thank Providence Hospice and the beautiful staff at Callahan House for their loving and compassionate care of our mother. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Margaret's name to Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation Dept., 2811 S. 102nd St., Suite 220, Tukwila, WA 98168.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held April 29, 2023 at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 8900 35th NE, in Seattle. Interment will follow at Calgary Cemetery.
