Marguerite "Geet" Barnard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2016.
Marguerite "Geet" Barnard passed away on June 4, 2016, surrounded by her family. She grew up in Haslett, Michigan, graduating in 1967. In 1969, she met and married the love of her life, Terry. She worked fulltime for the State of Michigan for over 34 years, retiring in 2002. Geet was an avid Red Wings and Spartan fan. She was a long time bowler in several leagues in the Lansing area. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR, flowers, bird watching, animals, camping, traveling and watching her grandsons play sports. She especially enjoyed going to the casino with her husband. Of all of the things that made her life full, there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her husband, daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and to her there was nothing better than laughing at the inside jokes and silliness that came along with time spent with them. She also loved spending time traveling, shopping and going to movies with her sisters. She is deeply loved by her family and will forever be missed by those she knew. She exhibited incredible strength and endured the awful side effects of cancer treatment, all so that she could spend more time with her family and friends. Her strength was truly an inspiration. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Willard Graham; mother-in-law, Elaine Barnard; sister, Kaye Sober; niece, Jamie Sober; and great nephew Cayman Frost. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Terry; daughters, Brandi (Dave) Blatt and Amy Barnard; grandsons, Austin and Josh Blatt; special sisters, Marlene Graham and Teresa (James) Bargo; father-in-law, Arlo Barnard; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends. Special thanks to her doctors, Dr. Tony Brandau, Dr. Elizabeth Layhe, Dr. Joseph Kozlowksi, and Dr.John Sauchak, and to the wonderful nurses and staff with McClaren Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. For those desiring, contributions may be made to Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906 in memory of Marguerite Barnard. Three weeks ago today I was over visiting Aunt Geet & Uncle Terry on a nice sunny day. I brought her over a fruit arrangement with strawberries dipped in Chocolate...one of her FAVORITES! She pulled one out of the arrangement and ate & enjoyed it! We had a wonderful time talking.... especially about the NASCAR race that is going on in Brooklyn MI; as her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.... XOXO

Terry, Geet was such a delight to be around. I met her in the 80's when I worked for MDA. Ray and I were very sorry to hear of her passing. Many times we thought about you and Geet and how much we enjoyed her company.

Terry, Amy, Brandi and Family,
I cannot believe it. It seems only yesterday I came to your house as a refuge from my nutty kids and you and Geet would let me in. One by one my three kids would come knocking on your door and ask if "my mom was there"? Geet would say "yes, come on in". After all three of my kids were there - Kelly, Brian and Kris - I would say it was time for me to leave and go home, leaving my 3 at your house. Geet always thought that was funny. She had such a contagious laugh. I will miss her so. Even had the chance to work near her when we both worked in the same State building. I'm so sorry for your loss. She was such a sunny and outgoing person. Geet added a lot of cheer to my life.

I was so sorry to hear of Geet's passing! I was an underclassman, but EVERYONE knew the Graham family. I specifically remember Geet's zest for life and her laughter was unique and absolutely contagious! May you rest now and be in peace forever and ever.

Terry, I am so very sorry for you and your families loss! I just found out yesterday! Geet was such an amazing person. I remember the first time I met her, we both were working g for the State, her personality just lit up any room she entered and I just immediately felt a friendship! I am proud to say I knew her and loved her very much! We had so many fun times together and memorable ones! I thank GOD for those times with her and with you both! I just want you to know even though I can't be there physically (I'm in Alabama) my heart is there with y'all and my prayers and caring surround you all. You all were the loves of her life, her heart, her pride and joy and she adored you all!!! Again, I am so sorry for your loss, all of our loss, but always remember that she is and always will be with you all...her love is that strong that she will remain watching over still! Love to you all from the bottom of my heart!

A beautiful tribute to Geet. I will always remember her smile, and the laughter during our bowling years; hers was infectious. I know how much she loved her family, and that will be her legacy as you all pass on the love she shared so deeply. May you all find comfort in the wonderful memories that you created together.
