Dr. Maria Milner Adelman

Maria Milner Adelman,M.D., 93, passed away on May 16, 2012 in Houston surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born in Gorky, Russia on April 23, 1919. She completed her medical studies in the USSR and served as a lieutenant/doctor on the front lines of the Russian Army during WWII. She was a pediatrician in Gorky until she relocated to Poland in 1960 and later moved to the U.S. with her family in 1961. In the U.S., she worked for many years as a clinical pathologist at Methodist Hospital in Dallas and later in Port Arthur, TX. In 1963, she translated the interview of Marina Oswald for federal authorities and Life Magazine after President Kennedy's assassination. With a huge heart, compassion for those less fortunate, and readiness to help all she met, she made friends everywhere she went. In addition to being a gifted physician, Maria was a loving mother and doting grandmother. She is predeceased by her husband, Julian Adelman, and survived by her sons, Aleksander Adelman of Houston, Joseph Adelman of Austin, and Roma Hoffman of Austin. She is survived by her grandchildren, Michael Hoffman of Seattle, WA, Eric Hoffman of Houston, Juliana Adelman of Lubbock, Natalie Adelman of Houston and Melanie Adelman of Selfoss, Iceland. Services will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest in Dallas at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012. Reception details will be provided after the service. Contributions may be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center for tolerance or a charity of your choice.
