She was a knowledgeable and accomplished expert in many things particularly textiles and dolls from folk origins. Yet she was ever modest, extremely generous with what she knew and what she owned. We were most fortunate to meet her and get to know her, learn from her and love her.

What a wonderful lady she was and a pleasure to know.

Our deep sympathy is with Mara's wide circle of family and friends who loved and cherished her many gifts. We were friends of Mara's during her years in Lexington and Knoxville and remained in distant contact in the years since, especially through her precious daughter Jessica. We remember Mara as full of curiosity for life and all it had to offer, as an intellectual, and as a lover of diverse cultures. She stimulated all around her to share these interests. Sincere condolences to Mara's beautiful family. I retain many wonderful memories from trips we did together to DAVAO and PANAY/ANTIQUE. Just being near Mara was an education on her many areas of passion and expertise. She continues to bless so many people via the galleries she set up in her beloved Negros. Her legacy will live on. Rest In Peace, dear Mara.

My deepest condolences to dear Mara's loved ones especially her children, grandchildren, siblings, close friends and family.
I have no words to express this sadness of your loss, just tears flowing. But I know you are now at peace on the other side.
Thank you Mara, for the time we have known each other, from the years of fun in Nepal- where we had Pinoy lunches or just simply chatting in the car while driving around, to your short visit to Stockholm where you went to every possibility to see some more folk arts and toys, and to welcoming us in your home when we needed to travel to the US in 2016, and every spring since, you shared us photos of your beautiful garden in front of your house in Alexandria.
Many sweet memories.... we will treasure
Rest in peace, my dear friend!
