Maria Ranjbar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 3, 2024.
Maria Zegarra Ranjbar was a loving, kind, creative woman of faith who lived life fully to the age of 78. She spent her final days in loving company with her sister Martha in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024.

Maria was born in Callao, Peru on April 8th, 1946 to her parents, Simon Cegarra Rodriguez and Julia Quesada Campos. She immigrated to Vancouver, Canada soon after graduating high school. She later immigrated to the United States, moving to be near family members in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, and Utah.

Maria was a devoted mother to her son, Kayvon Ranjbar, who is happily married to Anne Sophie Ranjbar. They have 2 girls, Chloe and Maya, and another child on the way. Maria also helped raise Noshene Ranjbar as her step-daughter and treated her like her own child. Noshene is now happily married to Matt Erb.

Maria joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young adult, and she devoted much of her time to learning and serving in the church throughout the rest of her life, including serving a mission in Peru and as president of the church's local women's organization.

She was a woman of many talents who worked at a bank, Mexican restaurant, nail salon, daycare, and elementary school--as well as making and selling jewelry and taking care of the elderly as a CNA for the last decade of her life.

Everyone who knew Maria knew how much she loved to create art, bake cookies and cakes, cook delicious food from around the world, dance, travel, and celebrate holidays with her family and friends.

Maria will always be remembered for her courage, strength, kindness, and love of her family.

Maria was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sisters Angelica de Ayala and Carmen Rosa de Nuñez. She is survived by her son Kayvon and siblings Martha Zegarra Flores, María Surynicz, Victoria Vera, Ana Maria de Gutierrez, and Julio Zegarra.

Maria was passionate about helping others, so if you would like to make a contribution in her honor, we would encourage you to donate to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund or to a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Maria's life will be held online on Saturday 9/7/24 at 9:00 am Pacific/12:00 pm Eastern time.
