Dear Beth and Gwenn,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I only learned of her passing today as I read the article about Nicholas in the Concord Monitor. I remember her, and the two of you, so clearly from your days at Burnham Brook. She was always the smartest mom in the room, as well as the most generous, with her time, concern and friendship. Please know I am thinking of the both of you.
Warmest regards.

Dear Martin, Beth, Gwen & Nick--
I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear about Marianne's passing. Marianne and I both attended Colby-Sawyer and Marianne hired me to work with her at New London Hospital. When I first went to work she had literally just given birth to you Beth! Marianne was lovely and kind--I remember the wedding shower she threw for me and the baby shower years later! I remember the birth of Gwen and reconnecting when Nick went to Shaker Road School. I remember her generosity and her warm smile and laugh.
I know that she loved you all deeply and that you miss her--my thoughts are with you.
Sincerely,
Kathy Scott Rowell and family

To Marianne's Family:
Marianne and I served together on the board at Havenwood-Heritage Heights. Part of that time covered the search process for the President of the organization. Marianne, with her good nature, thoughtfulness and acumen, made the selection much easier. It was comforting to know that she was involved. She was absolutely a lovely person and is deeply missed.

Marianne has been a very special friend since grammar school. She and her parents, grandparents, and brothers have been like my second family. Her older brother, Bob, has been the perfect combination of best friend and brother-like confidante to me for more than 40 years!
Just thinking of Marianne brings a smile to my face and my heart. I honestly don't know very many people I could think of where every single memory is totally consumed with smiles, laughter, and good fun.
I am pleased to be able to say that my tears and inability to sing the final hymn last week as my body trembled, have been replaced with something wonderful, all thanks to Marianne...memories of a special friend that I'll have with me forever.

Dear Martin, Beth, Gwen, and Nick,
We were so sad to hear that Marianne is no longer with us. She was an amazing and rare person, a true philanthropist who worked hard to make her community the best that it could be. She so generously gave of her time, energy and resources to better the lives of everyone around her.
Marianne's life seemed intertwined with mine as we shared so many things - Summit, NJ, Barrett Road, summer soccer sidelines, Andover, Burnham Brook, First Baptist Church and Colby-Sawyer, not to mention our kids. Marianne was so full of positive energy and an upbeat attitude. Nothing seemed to discourage her, no goal was too big to conquer. I remember her dedication to building intergenerational relationships when she had the residents of Havenwood Heights create the set and costumes for our Burnham Brook performance of The Wizard of Oz, which I directed when our girls were in middle school. What fun! I will remember her when I go by the skate park, see the school addition and beautiful grounds here in Andover, walk by Rooke hall at Colby-Sawyer and see the ski jumping hill lit up at night out my back window. She truly was an inspiration and our world is such a better place because of Marianne. We'll be thinking of you all in the days and weeks to come. May you be encouraged and comforted during this sad time. And may her life inspire all of us to live life to the fullest!

We were one of many families who remember Marianne for her energy, her smile, and her absolute commitment to making sure that each young jumper had the support neded to do his/her best. Marianne's fundraising efforts surely had the greatest general effect on Estearn Ski Jumping, but we particularly remember her wonderful reports after she shepherded groups of young jumpers, including our son Robbie, to competitions. While we were back at home enjoying an "empty nest" Marianne was out there feeding and caring for our child. Later we would receive a report of the trip that included the total length of the grocery tapes, the number of card games played, the stakes won, and just incidentally how each jumper did. This caring is what made such a huge difference in our child's development, and we only regret we can only return the favor by cheering on Nicholas from the sidelines.

Dear family Fairall:
Had to make sure that Gavin Guay, my son, and I offered our condolences. Marianne was always joyful of spirit, welcoming and helped Gavin get excited about jumping. Nicholas, I remember your help, too. So, carry on knowing Mom is right there with you.

Marianne was such a thoughtful and caring lady. Many of us let our kids go off when they were young to some new ski hill with absolute confidence that Marianne was there for the kids. She was truly a mom to many young jumpers and will be missed by all of us, kids and parents alike. All those weekends on the ski hills were a much better place to be in years past thanks to her.

Marianne was a wonder. Her family was the light of her life, but she never failed to direct her own inner light to others - with a broad smile or bright hello. Strong, kind and faithful, she gave generously to her community; all of us who were lucky enough to know Marianne were recipients of her optimistic energy. Beth, Gwenn & Nick, you were lucky to have had such a mom. We will miss her, too.

hello,
My name is Will Schott and I am a sixteen-year old ski-jumper from the blackhawk ski club in the central division.
It's undoubtedly a sad day, this one as I have been seeing various articles on-line describing the passing of Mrs. Fairall. She was a wonderful lady and one of the strongest people I know. She was the kind of person that made you want to hug them, no matter how bad your day was, or how short you were jumping. I mostly remember all the hugs I recieved from her in the lake placid changing area and thinking "man, that lady is strong, or I need to start lifting more weights!" I say that because even for a lady battling cancer, she was stronger than most everyone else, both physically and emotionally. I will certainly miss her hugs, but in her passing I do believe she has left us all with some great memories and messages. She has taught me, that you don't always have to use words, sometimes a smile goes a long ways. And also that never giving up might not get you exactly what you want, but it will sure feel good and make you a lot of friends along the way.
thanks for everything Mrs. Fairall

So sad to hear of Marianne's passing. Her contributions to our sport is solidly legend, her presence always adding to any ocassion. While we saw her but a few times, she always seemed to warm the room. On our first trip to Lake Placid, she made us feel like family...total strangers that we were. Our deepest sympathy to the Fairall family.

To the Fairall Family,
We were very saddened by Marianne’s passing. Beyond being an organizer and volunteer inspiration, she “looked after” so many young people. As parents, we were so re-assured that, when Marianne was around, our children would be OK, no matter what physical or mental challenges they faced. We were all blessed by having her present and she will be sorely missed. Our prayers will be for her and with your family.

Dear Fairall and Rooke families,
I was so sorry to learn today of Marianne's death. I have been amazed from afar with how valiantly and steadfastly she fought to stay with her family. Although we had not seen each other in many years, in reading what others wrote, I was not surprised by any of what was said about Marianne. The ready smile and the kindnesses to others were all apparent in our college days together. She had a way of lighting up a room and her focus was always on you, not herself. I am not able to attend the memorial service, but will join you tomorrow night to remember her and to celebrate her life. Although too short, it was a life lived with such grace and profound love for her family.
With kindest regards,
Scott Kidder

To the Fairall Family, There really are no words which can comfort you, but I will do my best. I will miss Marianne so very much, the way she always had some kind of project going, to improve the town, ski jumps, school, playground, or any other piece of Andover which enriched our lives so much. I feel that I am a better person just for knowing her. She has inspired so much good in the world, it can never be taken away. Jenny and I are very sad that we can not attend the service this week, but know that we hold you in our hearts and wish we could be there. I will remember her always. Love, Scott and Jenny Kidder

Thinking of Martin and the children at this very sad time, but also remembering a very special lady who brought a smile to everyone around her. Her positive attitude and zest for life was infectious. We will cherish the memories of Marianne and remember the great times we spent together, often in dorset country pubs laughing and catching up on family news.

Nick & Marianne's Family:
I was so saddened yesterday when I received a phone call from Chris Johnson that Marianne had lost her Brave fight.
Marianne and I had corresponded about the Bell Fundraiser many years ago and met in Lake Placid at Junior Olympics. I found her by the fire selling the bells. From then on whenever we saw each other at events we shared our mutual interests and stories of ski jumping fundraising, serving on boards, community work and of course, our sons. Marianne will be missed by so many of us at the National Sports Foundation in Park City and her contribution to ski jumping.
Nick, I will be following your ski jumping, wishing you to soar, remembering your mother each time. Marianne will forever be with you and all of us.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Penny Fletcher

Fairall Family and Friends,
My life was brightened by Marianne by her enthusiam for life and her family. We will never forget her courage, determination, and grace that she demonstrated to all ,during the tough times she faced. During all challenging times Marianne always stopped to ask how you and your family was doing. We will miss her deeply in the coming years but will always know that she had been such a valuable asset to the Ski Jumping Community. Steamboat Springs will certainly miss her smiling face and whenever there is a blue-sky jumping day we will certainly think of Marianne.......Love the Fletcher Family, Bryan, Taylor, and Penny Fletcher......

I have already written a favorite memory to Don West to include in his Eastern Ski Jumping collection and so won't repeat it here, but suffice it to say that to narrow the memories to one was difficult, such was the depth and breadth of Marianne's impact on our lives.
The ski jumping community mourns with the Fairall family over the loss of a tremendously giving, caring and hard-working friend. For me, she will continue to be a role model of the best of human nature...an inextinguishable example of how to view the bright side of every situation...and an ongoing inspiration of how to never EVER give up.
Nick, we will continue to delight in following your ski jumping career, as we know that you will be bouyed by a special kind of headwind from Heaven. We send our love and hugs...
With great sadness,

There is not time nor space on this page or in my brain to remember all of the times Marianne helped me....
What does this term a coached used mean?.... how do I organize a ski trip? ..where do I find lodging for the skiers? How do I order bells?... The list of questions Marianne cheerfully answered. .goes on and on .... So you see not only was Marianne a huge part of Eastern ski jumping she also was a huge part of the Central ski jumping as well. I wish I had a picture to share but mine is only in my mind... I will describe it ... You will recognize it... it will be how I remember Marianne.... a long wool skirt.. boots... jacket.. mittens and a woven basket full of bells on her back .... stopping to greet each little spectator at the bottom of LP hills during a competition... a little snow in the air always a smile.. when asked how are you doing always a cheerful " ok" and she always stopped to look up hill as each skier jumped no matter who they were she wanted every skier to do their best. Marianne we will miss you, we are so glad we could be a small part of your world. the Schotts Black Earth Wisconsin
