Mrs. Avant was born in St. Matthews, SC, a daughter of the late James Ariel Inabinet and Fannie Pauline Ayers Inabinet. She is survived by her husband John James Thomas Avant of the home, and was the widow of Homer J. Jordan. She was also predeceased by four brothers, James Lee Inabinet, George Kirby Inabinet, William Billy David Inabinet, Edward Wesley Inabinet; and one sister, Meredith Polly Deanna Inabinet Morris. Mrs. Avant was a retired receptionist for Dr. Jack Redfearn, DDS. She was a member of Community Freewill Baptist Church in Johnsonville, SC.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: four sons, Richard Homer Jordan and his wife Nina of San Antonio, TX, Ron Kirby Jordan and his wife, Lou of Florence, SC, David Ariel Jordan and his wife, Laura of Columbia, SC, and William Billy Freer Jordan of Woodstock, GA: four daughters, Dianne Leachman of Big Pine Key, FL, Kathy Jordan Thompkins and her husband, Johnny, of Marion, SC, Deborah Jordan Hickman and her husband, Burley, Aynor, SC, and Deanna Jordan Slomzenski and her husband, Frank, of Columbia, SC; stepchildren, Beth Howell and her husband, Ricky, of Conway, SC, Tommy Avant and his wife, Lynn, of Scranton, SC, and Wanda McDowell and her husband, Bryan of Gresham, SC; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Inabinet Morgan of Columbia, SC; 21 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Marie was a sweet lady and I got to know her when Thomas was playing music at the music hall. I send my prayers to all the family.

We are sorry that we were not able to attend the services for Marie. She will be greatly missed, especially at the Ayers Family Reunion in May. If able, she was always there. We loved her very much. Our prayers are with all of you siblings and to Thomas. Love you, Floyd and Nancy
