Marie Bomer

Hazel "Marie" Bomer, 97, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017, at HomePlace-The Hospice of East Texas.

At 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, there will be a celebration of her life with Rev. David Brasher officiating. The service will be held in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is an hour before the service.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral home.

Marie Bomer, daughter of the late William Bert and Flora Effie Knighten, was born on August 12, 1919, in Westfalls, Oregon, the fourth of five children. She graduated from Harper High School in Harper, Oregon.

In 1959 she joined her sister and brother-in-law in Paraguay. There she began her career with the airline industry working for Baniff Airlines. When she returned to the United States she relocated to Houston and began working for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Marie loved to travel and has traveled all over the world. She encouraged her nieces and nephews to do the same.

While in Houston a friend introduced Marie to Marvin Andrew Bomer. They married in 1965 and moved to Silsbee, Texas. Marvin was the owner of South Hampton Oil and Refinery. When they retired they moved to Bullard.

Marie and Marvin were active members of First United Methodist Church of Bullard. Because of their giving hearts and love for all, they made it possible for the new Marvin and Marie Bomer Mission House Clinic to become a reality. She was also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Marvin, her parents and her siblings.

She is survived by her step-daughter Eva Gerard Willis; grandsons, Harold Wayne Willis II and Nathan Andrew Willis; and great-granddaughter, Whitney Le Willis along with many loving nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Willis, Wayne Willis, Glyn Ray Bomer Jr., David Bomer, Don Bomer and Bobby Bomer.
