Marie S. Burns, 96, died peacefully on October 15, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill of 49 years, and her beloved granddaughter Sarah Bond.
Marie was born and raised in Chicago IL , the last surviving child of the late Theodore and Dorothy Strunck.
Marie’s devotion to her Catholic faith guided her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, and friend. She was an engaged and supportive listener, concerned about others well being, always with a positive outlook and energy. Her smile brightened the lives of those around her.
Marie and Bill were known for their hospitality and welcoming nature. They loved a good time with family and friends, and created a home filled with love, laughter, music, and lasting memories.
Her greatest joys were her beloved children and grandchildren: Patrick Burns (Tomoko), Catherine Bond (David), Maribeth Washburne (John), Margaret Peak (Keith), and Susan Olden (Mike). She was a loving grandmother to Teddy, KoKo, Eric, Steve, Brian, Dan, Amy, William, Michelle, Meghan, and 13 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be planned for summer 2023 at St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago. Details to be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Misericordia Foundation, 6300 North Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.
