Dan, Nancy & Gretchen, All your Texas cousins are sending you love and light and heartfelt condolences at this time. I remember how beautiful she was, and the few times we visited at the Lazy L.
You're all in my prayers. Cousin Mary Grigassy Bearden (Houston, TX)

The more mature I grew, the more I appreciated how much courage all of you had as a family. Your mom remains fresh in my memory - I always loved her smile and her smarts. It was wonderful to talk with her on her last birthday. My own mom liked her a lot, too, and shared some sense of being an outsider with her. Losing one's mother is life altering at best, and I send you all the prayers and thoughts possible to bring you the comfort you need. - Mary Monica Mitchell, Seattle, WA

Mrs. Grigassy was also my shorthand teacher! She was such a beautiful lady inside and out! Although I never got to use my shorthand, I thought of her often through the years! I think she made an impact on many of us! I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you! May she rest in peace!

To the Family of my dear teacher:
I was part of the first secretarial class she had invited to her home near Frick Park. She made us feel so welcome. She was a professional who loved teaching and it showed. I was one, if not the only one, who gained an interview with US Steel in the downtown office. Although I did not get the job, she was thrilled that I was given an interview. I still fine myself writing notes in shorthand.
I often wondered what had happened to her and so glad she had a long life. I remember her stress when Kretchen fail and hit her head....
I hold out the hope that one day she will be healthy and vital on a paradise earth so others may have the pleasure of knowing her as I did.
All the best

Dear Family and Friends of Mrs. Grigassy: Time and space won't permit me the opportunity to share with you the very positive impact she had on me as a person and as my shorthand teacher at Braddock High School. I am a Minister now, and it was just yesterday morning that I shared with students in our Dream Academy how Mrs. Grigassy was the one who "lit a spark in me." She loved Greg Shorthand and she loved her students. She was not afraid to demonstrate "tough love", and believe me, I needed it at times. Not only was she a great shorthand teacher, she helped me and others learn the discipline, hard work, and behaviors required for successful performance in college, in the business world, as well as in all of our life's pursuits. What a beautiful person and "living epistle!" I had not seen her since high school graduation, but there were not many days hat went by when I did not think of the inspiration and encouragement she provided in the classroom. I became a teacher and trainer, and I can honestly say that I shared with my students (high school, college, vocational training centers, as well as in global learning centers) what I learned from Mrs. Grigassy at Braddock High. Finally, she made me feel important, and she helped me to see beyond high school and college. Mrs. Grigassy was a beautiful lady who dressed very professionally every day.
I am so grateful and thankful to God that He placed her in my pathway. I shall never forget her, and I shall look forward to seeing her again "on that day."
We send forth our most sincere condolences. May the God of all comfort bless you and keep you by His power. We are praying for you!

Marie
Mother to mother, I thank you for the gift of your Blessed Son. He helped my daughter and in turn myself, in more ways than I believe he is aware. And of course he and I were both raised in Pittsburgh.

Although I never did have the personal honor of meeting you, I knew you very well through your beautiful son, Father Dan, my dear friend, and spiritual inspiration. I was so happy to be able to be a part of your monumental birthday across the miles and I always knew that I was in your daily prayers.
Thank you for sharing one of your true accomplishments, Father Dan, with me. I will always keep him close in my heart through prayer, friendship, and of course, last but certainly not least our Pittsburgh-Connection.
