Marie Elizabeth Hudak, 83, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully Thursday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. She was the widow of George S. Hudak Sr.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late August and Anna Rakowicz Carfelo, she was a member of St. Ann's Basilica. Before her illness, she volunteered at St. Ann's Novena. Marie was known to give of herself and expect nothing in return.
Marie attended school in the Scranton School District. She valued family and time spent with them. Marie enjoyed cooking and baking. Some of her favorite memories were of holidays and Sunday dinners, which she prepared well into her children's adult years.
She was fortunate enough to share her love of cooking with the masses as she was a cook for Larioni's Lounge and later on at Clarks Summit State Hospital.
Marie was known as a straight shooter. She gave you her honest opinion and didn't pick favorites. She would often say, "I don't care who you are. If you're wrong, you're wrong."
Surviving are three sons, John and wife, Gina, Scranton; Brent, Old Forge, whom she lived with, and wife, Kathleen, Dunmore; and Jeffrey, Ransom; daughter, Shannon Bisset and husband, Daniel, Ransom; five grandchildren, Melissa, Nicole, Kelsey, Brent and Devin; great-grandson, Stephen Stoeffler; and great-granddaughter, Natalie Hudak, two sisters, Shirley Pelosi and Dorothy Valvano; sisters-in-law, Rose McDonald, Geraldine Kovalesky, Arlene Zutant; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, George Jr.; daughter, Simone; granddaughter, Holly Hudak; grandson, Jeffrey Hudak; sisters, Joan Gursky and Lorraine McDonald; and two brothers, Francis and Harold McDonald.
In memory of Marie, please send donations to St. Joseph's Center.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp. Arrangements by Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton.

Aunt Marie will truly be missed by everyone. She was the life of every party. Aunt Marie was unwavering in her devotion, consideration, and generosity to her family and friends. Throughout her life and her many trials and tribulations she did her best to stay strong. There is now a big empty place in our hearts. We will miss you Aunt Marie. With love and caring thoughts to the entire family. Love, Paul and Gail

To the Hudak family I send my most heartfelt condolences. She was very a very hard working woman that a big heart for everyone. Her kindness was unlimited. She always thought about her children and their well-being. She had a special personality and character that made you laugh and think. I am proud to have known her. It was our children that brought us into each other’s lives when they married. She will be hard to forget. I pray God gives you peace in her passing. RIP Marie, I will always remember you.
