Marie Rosalie Marotta (Trembath) died at home in the early morning hours of July 23rd, 2023, at the age of 93, in
Timberlake, North Carolina. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, with a backdrop of sunshine and birdsong, most fitting for her eternal homecoming. She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Robert E. Marotta. She is survived by her children, Garret (Mary) Marotta and Linda (David) McGee; grandchildren, Laura Marotta (Stacy Lord), Jamie (Joe) Thomson, Derek McGee and Jared McGee; and great granddaughter, Emmylou Thomson.
Marie was born March 26, 1930 in
Lynn, MA. She was the only child of Evangeline and Robert Trembath. Just a few short years later she moved to Nova Scotia to live on her grandparents' farm. She fondly recalled memories of milking cows, picking berries and riding her favorite pig. She had a lifetime love for animals and nature that was surely cultivated during these early years.
With adaptability and resiliency, she moved back to the United States at the age of 13. She was a bright and hardworking student. She went on to study at Burdett College and throughout the years held several positions as an administrative assistant (most notably at Digital Equipment Corporation). Even in retirement she was happiest when she was busy being helpful.
While at a church dance, she met her future husband, Bob. They were married April 24, 1954 in
Monterey, CA. They went on to have two children, Garret and Linda. She eventually became "Nana" to four grandchildren and "Gigi" to one great granddaughter. At the time of her death, she lived in Timberlake with her daughter and Son in Law.
To her grandkids, she was a tender love, the epitome of sweetness: sitting in the kitchen, eating lemon curd on crackers and admiring her kitten figurines; searching for seashells on the beach; simmering lentil soup or fresh baked cookies after school. She was present in the mundane moments. Whether the smell of coffee in the morning, small chat while gazing out the window, a game of chess, or a shared lunch - not a moment went unappreciated. When asked her favorite thing about Gigi, Emmylou (2 years) responded without hesitation: "hugs!"
She had an eye for art and beautiful things. She was drawn to the positive energy of gemstones - aquamarine and amethyst being her favorites (the latter not surprising as she had an affinity for all things purple). She had great artistic skill for oil painting, sewing and knitting. Three generations have been lovingly tucked in with blankets made by her talented hands.
All those who knew Marie knew she was a woman of great faith and an active member of the Catholic Church. This was a constant, never wavering despite the many ebbs and flows in life. While her absence is felt deeply by her loved ones, it is a comfort to all to know she is now at peace in the arms of Jesus.
The Family will gather in
Myrtle Beach, SC in September for a celebration of Marie's life. A mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by an Interment of ashes at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Marie's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Marie's name.
