When looking through the Sunday newspaper - the first thang, to look fer is "Charlie Brown." Now! Iffen dat don't put a smile on yo' face and lift yo' spirits - dey ain't nuttin gonna do it. (found this 'Miss Jerry-sayin' from Tangilena.com 5/12/10) Rose Marie "Jerry" Lanier Pulliam of Amite, LA, was called home by the Lord on October 9, 2014, at the age of 87. She was born to Leon Tremont Lanier and Teresita Marie Reine Lanier on March 8, 1927, and was the youngest of eight siblings, of which she was the last survivor. She was raised in the Catholic Church before becoming a member of the Church of Christ when she married. She brought her three children up to respect the teachings of the Bible and put an emphasis on education. Her husband, Charles Shelton Pulliam, preceded her in death, passing away in 1991, as did her youngest son, Vernon "Hoss" Shelton Pulliam, who passed away in 2009. "Miss Jerry" was a famed columnist with the Amite-Tangi Digest Newspaper for her witty, country publication "Jerry Dot Com", was an accomplished poet and worked as a local notary for nearly two decades. She also worked for the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, and the State of Louisiana Social Services Office with more than twenty years of dedicated service. She was a fixture of East Factory Street in Amite, having maintained the same residence for over 45 years. She is survived by her children, Chuck Pulliam and wife, Susan, Roxanne Pulliam Sumrall and husband, Perry, Emily Pulliam, wife of Hoss, grandchildren, Reggie Pulliam, Elizabeth "Beth" Sumrall Mizell and husband, Vick, Chase Pulliam and wife, Kali, and 2 great grandchildren, Alex and Victoria Mizell; along with a whole bunch of kin in Tangipahoa and other parts of the country without enough space in the paper to include all, plus the other numerous people that loved her enough to be counted as part of Aunt Jerry's family. Thank God for small towns and the people which make them family. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 1 p.m. until Memorial Services at 3 p.m on Saturday, October 18, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hayden Grove Church of Christ, P. O. Box 835, Amite, LA 70422. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.

Chuck and Roxanne,

So sorry about the death of your mother. Aunt Jerry used to write little poems and read them over the dinner table for special occasions. I loved that. That will always be a special memory.

I had the pleasure of working with Miss Jerry at the Welfare Office... And seeing her in the neighborhood-living on the street behind Aunt Mildred & Uncle Fleet. She was a great lady - sweet and kind.
My deepest sympathies to all the family.

Gonna miss Ms Jerry!! She always told me there were two people in Amite who made her smile when she saw them-Me & Ray Glasgow- but actually it was the other way around because when i saw her she always brought a smile to my face! See you in Heaven ! God bless you & your family!

Dear Chuck and Roxanne,
I thought about sending an online card but decided to do snail mail. However, at first I chose the card with the American flag. Your mom was very, very adamant about conservative American values....so very proud of her autographed picture of Bush...in her later years. But the Aunt Jerry I remember from before you two were born was thoroughly modern and a little on the wild side. SMILE! So had I chosen to send an online card it would've been the one that said:
This was no ordinary life!
There'll never be another Aunt Jerry.
Wish I could be there to celebrate her home-going. And by all means, make it a celebration!
Love from your favorite baby-sitter, VC

God brought another angel home on high. She will live in your heart forever! Her smile and laughter will now keep them rolling up there! She is free to soar and write to her heart's desire! My mother has only sweet memories of her years of friendship with Miss Jerry. We send our prayers for you all and know we love you.
