Marilyn Leonard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2024.
Marilyn Leonard, age 76, peacefully passed away surrounded by her beloved family on October 18, 2024. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on May 10, 1948, and was raised in Linden, NJ with her five siblings. She resided in Glen Rock, NJ for 36 years where she raised her three children and was always a hit at the Jr Football stand.

Marilyn appreciated the simple things in life. She had a love of nature and wildlife, especially birds. She enjoyed collecting seashells on the beach, hiking, and kayaking. She spent many days walking the path of the Glen Rock county park and was also known to escape to the Jersey Shore early in the morning to see the sunrise.

Marilyn loved helping people and spent most of her life caring for others. In her later years, she became a certified nursing assistant to provide care for the elderly and those suffering from dementia. She will always be remembered for her gentle and loving nature.

Her greatest love of all was her precious family. Her happiest moments were spent with her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all.

She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Emily Ciemniecki, brother Edward Ciemniecki, sister Janice Clemens and her husband Jim, and sister-in-law Lorraine Ciemniecki. She is survived by her son, Jim Leonard and his wife Erin; daughter Michelle Conger and her husband David; son Christopher Leonard and his wife Kacy; brother Ray Ciemniecki and his wife Pat; brother Stanley Ciemniecki; sister Lori Gewirtz and her husband Richard; sister-in-law Sheila Ciemniecki; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Michael and his wife Katherine, James, Jack, Molly, Annie, Allie, Benjamin, and Charlotte; along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, New Jersey 07450.

When I first met Marilyn we immediately bonded over our love of theater and music. She always asked me to sing to her everyday which I gladly did. She made so many friends & we all enjoyed singing together. Her favorites were Somewhere Over the Rainbow, You are My Sunshine, and What a Wonderful World. I will miss her contagious smile and her sweet disposition. May she rest in peace and may she continue to sing with the angels.

Marilyn was a shining soul who lived the heroic Christian virtues of charity and self-sacrifice. She did everything with love, selflessness and generosity. Family gatherings at her home were marked by a spirit of welcome and hospitality. It was obvious she worked very hard to prepare the house for guests and serve delicious, abundant meals. When Marilyn was a guest at our house, she showed the same generosity. She always brought food and was a cheerful helper. However, what most exemplifies Marilyn's Christian virtues is the way she cared for her parents in their need and for Jim's mother Rose at the end of her life. What she did was truly Christ-like. As the sister and brother-in-law of Jim, we express our eternal gratitude and love to Marilyn. It is our prayer that she rest in perpetual peace.
