BUFFALO GROVE - Marilyn McDermid was born on October 8, 1934 in Antelope, North Dakota to Gerald and Elsie (nee Gorich) Kapitz. She died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at home. Marilyn worked as an Executive Director for the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, canning, sewing and reading. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Marilyn is survived by her children, Dawn (Bob Garcia) McDermid, Nancy (Patrick) Filatre, David (Julie) McDermid, Kathleen (Tom) Kotel, Therese (Mike) Cofrin; her grandchildren, Tom, Pascal, Natalie, Anna, Brad, Kelly, Blake, Talia, Ashley, Karlie; her siblings, Judy (the late Mike) Cihasky, and Russell (Carmen) Kapitz, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Norman W. McDermid, son, Tom McDermid, brother, Richard Kapitz. and her parents. Visitation from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, and Friday, July 15, 2016 from 10:00 am until time of prayers at 10:45 proceeding to St. Mary Parish, 10 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, for Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Special Gifts Theater, or any organization that supports children with special needs.
